Typical Which?, what about the millions saving money?

I know that at work we do very well out of our E7 clock. It is virtually cheap rate for the entire working hours of the company.

We have informed EDF and the DNO and neither care. EDF say the tariff is for 7 hours of cheap rate, when we get it is of no concern for them. :D
I agree, they do, but only if they are aware of the messed up times and believe me , they dont. Most don`t understand why they are even on eco 7 as they have gas central heating. The night storage heaters are long gone but the confusing meter remains. I make it my business to inform a lot of eco 7 users to either get on single rate or to make sure to make the most of the cheap rate. The last time I checked a comp site BG had a very good 4 p per kwhr low rate tariff in my area so it was worth making best use if possible. Best bet tho is to get rid of the meter back to single rate

All suppliers now have regulatory requirement to tell residential multi rate customers if they can save money by swapping to a single rate tariff.

It should be included in the the cheapest deal message on every bill, annual statement, and product closure/price increase letter.

Its licence condition 31A(f) and came into force in 31st March 2014.

Sounds great about suppliers informing everyone, but the info is hidden away in the confusing ridiculous billing info which many have never been able to understand anyway. They have a fear of energy bills and look only at the bottom line..kwhr is way over their heads. and the suppliers know it. a separate letter written in plain english is required. Dont think that the suppliers are going to go out of their way to lose money. They will do the bare minimum to abide by the rules..and they have.. A separate letter is needed.

Nope not any more, the bill design is covered in legislation. Confusing bills would be prosecuted under SoC.

The SCD message must be displayed on a separate box on the front page of every bill or statement of accounts and must be given equal prominence to everything else on the page, it even has a minimum font size.

That because people don't read the literature they are sent and the media don’t want to report on good news, suppliers can't help that. 60% of customers have never engaged and are on standard tariffs, these certainly are not the cheapest but they are not the most expensive either, Long term fixes and 'Green' tariffs are more expensive.

I was sent the information by my supplier around the end of march they even sent me a link to a video explaining it. I’ll see if I can find it.

This is OFGEMs website where they simplify the changes: All the details a customer needs to run a comparison on a switching site are provide on each bill as explained in the how to shop page

Bark01, the people on this forum are mostly clued up intelligent people and can get to grips with energy bills but believe me, out there in the wild, there are people who have a fear of a kwhr and an energy bill and will never understand it until a really big letter is sent out in simplified English. I remember when BBC Watchdog ran a story about the confusing energy bills and got the years winner of Mastermind to try and fathom out an energy bill, 2 tier tariffs etc and he failed, so what chance have the O.A.Ps got.?

2 Tier tariffs have been banned for that exact reason. Things are getting better.

I don't a letter will help sticky customers as people simply don't read them. It needs a shift in media attention and the red tops to get involved. Unfortunately that won't sell papers.

agreed...its not just the oaps, I was in a really large posh professionals house last week who s night rate was on at 2pm in the afternoon and despite being an avid watcher for the cheap night rate time he had nt spotted it on his meter. Was very annoyed and prob due a sizable rebate as he was under the impression his night rate was 12.30 am to 7.30 am.. Scot Power seem to be the only supplier concerned about these errant timer switches, He was a Scot Power customer

This may sound like a silly question but please help me out......Npower say on their website that for the East Midlands, Economy 7 rate is for 7 hours between 23:00 and 07:00 hours......unless my maths is totally wrong that's 8 hours?

Unless Npower randomly choose which 7 hours between 23:00 and 07:00 they apply the cheaper tariff to, or am I getting this totally muddled? Please help :)

    Hi Inglorius,

    Thanks for your post.

Bark01 is right - the exact times of your Economy 7 varies from area to area and depends on the SSC code of your meter. If you want to drop us an email using the details on our profile, I'll be happy to investigate this and let you know the specific times.

With regards to the tariff comparisons, we now advise customers of the cheapest comparative tariff and the cheapest overall tariff on their bills - usually on page 2 or 3. Hope this info helps.

    Thanks

    Jess :)
