Electoral Roll changes - and massive privacy violation.

Are you not concerned that potentially hundreds of thousands of people have had their privacy violated and data sold to marketers?
The ICO certainly is. They're investigating a number of counccils over data breaches already.
Yes, I am concerned.
Please answer the question: what more do you want?0 -

I want the EC to come forward and issue statements about what has happened.
They've made a stuff-up of monumental proportions and dumped a number of councils in the poo because they didn't grasp the basics of data protection law. This is the kind of scale where people should be fired and/or prosecuted.
Simply removing people from the open register doesn't "un-sell" the data which has already been sold on, so it has not been "put right" by any stretch of the imagination.
WRT being in "vents" - there's a large consumer rights issue at stake regarding unauthorised dissemination of personal data, so I feel it's more appropriate here.
Media are starting to stir on this. I've had a couple of emails this morning.0 -

So let's stretch your imagination.
How do you propose to '"un-sell" the data which has already been sold on'?
There is no money-saving issue here.
This thread should be on Money Savers Arms: Discussion Board... where the description is Want to chat about the issues? Whatever they are this is the place.
There is already at least one thread on this subject over there.0 -
Since councils provide a paid for service and often call their ratepayer clients 'customers' then this thread seems fair enough.
This thread has developed quite interestingly and it should continue, and that might as well be here.
It has occurred to me that councils may be receiving payment for managing the open register in which case it would get even more interesting.0 -
Am i the only person who doesn't give a stuff about this "issue" ?0

As in, reads thread, posts on it but does not care a stuff? Yes.0

You may already be aware; but, you'll have to contact the Telephone Preference Service re those.
The Roll mainly results in junk mail.
Although a huge caveat is that the Full Register is available at local libraries and to all of the political parties, so you can still be found and contacted by canvassers at the door and by post. Please be polite to OPs and remember this is a site for Claimants and Appellants to seek redress against their bank, ex-boss or retailer. If they wanted morality or the view of the IoD or Bank they'd ask them.0 -

I am actually surprised that the media and political parties have not raised the more important issue that the new way of voter registration will lead to many people not being registered to vote at the next General Election. Please be polite to OPs and remember this is a site for Claimants and Appellants to seek redress against their bank, ex-boss or retailer. This has occurred to me to. A large number of people are apathetic about voting as it is, and now they are even less likely to.0 -

For God's sake, it is a list of names and addresses!
It is not as though your medical records are being put on the internet for the world to see. (The police are after them though, that should be far more of a concern in my view).
And why in the name of all that is holy you would think the EU are going to march over the hill and sack council chief executives the length and breadth of the land is beyond me.0
