Just ask if you can leave stuff with them, they have always said yes to me.
I would not be happy doing this, if there was an emergency that the lifeguard had to respond to then they would be off leaving your stuff unattended
I am very surprised that a life guard on duty would agree to look after your valuables while you went off for a swim0 -
if you want something a bit more expensive then look at the aquapac range
store.aquapac.net/watersports/keymaster
they are rated IPX 8 submersible, Protected against long periods of immersion under pressure - The case is suitable for immersion for at least 30 minutes to a depth of 30ft / 10m.
if it will keep water out for 30 minutes at 10 mts down it should be more than suitable for a swim on the surface
Thanks I don't mind what it costs (within reason!). I won't be buying a cheap one as I want it to actually work. I also plan to use it quite a few times we live near the beach so have no excuse not to goI like the fact that this one floats if dropped.

I go to the beach on my own. My beach bag and beach chair both have pockets in. I just leave the key in one of them . Someone would have to rummage around to find the key, then find my car.
My friend leaves her key on top of the back wheel.0 -
we always left ours under the towel.0

When I was a kid, we used to put the valuables in a plastic bag and bury it in the sand under the towel. It also helps to have a very distinctive towel that you can keep an eye on from a distance when you're in the water.0

I think a lot depends on the type of beach - most beaches I have swam at have been fairly off the beaten track like branscombe (devon) and seatown (dorset) - i tend to leave my keys in the bag that has my towel & clothes - i have a scan around for any "shifty" types hanging about but it's mainly just families with young kids & retired couples at these beaches - i would not be so happy leaving stuff on a really crowded beach like bournemouth for example!0

I didn't imagine someone would steel the car like you point out they would have to go alot of trouble to do that. However someone might walk off with the bag hoping there was money etc inside, which would still mean I would lose my car key with no way of getting home! I can't lose my key as I only have one it would cost a fortune to get someone out to sort it - all whilst having no access to clothes or a phone!!!!0 -

I like that :rotfl:
Knowing my luck someone would come along wanting to tidy up the beach and throw it in the bin!0 -
When I went to the beach as a kid my towel had a pocket in it that you could leave small things in like keys or some cash etc. So long as no one takes your towel you should be ok. Otherwise my mum used to pin her keys to her swimsuit but that would have been easier in days where it was just a key and not like these days where they are some sort of electronic device.Starting Mortgage Balance: £264,800 (8th Aug 2014)
