Luckily, most people responding to the OP have the sensible viewMy Advice is to not do this.My advice would be not to do this!Money-Saving-King wrote: »Yes my advice is this probably isn't a good idea and won't get you very far!0 -
My opinion:
Parts melting moves from being a warranty issue to a product safety one - that's only one step short of catching fire.
It's probably worth having a chat to your local trading standards people.0 -
All depends on the reason that it happened. At the moment user negligence has not been ruled out especially if there appears to be no record, or very little, of a similar problem on that range of laptopsThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. Took it to Currys and they said theres nothing they can do for me in store and advised me to phone the Know how people. Phoned them and explained the situation and as there tech department was closed they have took the details and will give me a call tomorrow and see if I can have a repair done free of charge. This isnt a normal fault with the laptop and is a safety issue, if my daughter had been charging the laptop at night then this could be a fatality we are talking about rather than just a scare. I spoke to the advisor in a civil way and she was nice about it and phoned through to the Know how team for me and explained everything and tried her best for me which I thanked her for. If it hadve went the other way and it hadve been a flat no then I wouldve made a fuss regardless of the wage they are on, ive worked jobs for minimum wage and had complaints from people as its expected in the retail sector as not all customers are happy with the solution offered. On this occasion however it was resolved amicably, and it wouldve been the manager I would have had the rant at not the advisor as they get paid the big bucks to listen to me and ultimately can make the right calls and decisions that would resolve the situation.0

I do hope that you are joking, but given your first post I sadly suspect not. No matter how much a member of staff is paid they are still fellow humans and should be spoken to in a calm and reasonable manner, and certainly not 'ranted' at. If nothing else then it makes the likelihood of you receiving the resolution you are requesting very remote. I hope you aren't teaching your child that this sort of attitude towards others is acceptable, because if so you should be ashamed of yourself.0 -
See what Curry's come up with,
If not take it up with the manufacture, you will win eventually but you might have to push it a bit.
I work in returns department of a electrical store (not curry's)
Over the last couple of month we have had a couple of cases like this with Lenovo and Asus
Lenovo is still on-going but Asus after just a couple of phone calls to them have offed the customer a new laptop, the laptop is top of the range and a lot more expensive than what they had.
Basically cases like this are bad press for them when its a issue with safety, if curry's wanted to sort this out (like they should do) it wouldn't be hard to sort it out with the manufacture0 -

I do hope you are a Troll and not a real consumer. It is times like this, which show to people that consumers like this, make it harder for you all to get service in stores without any hassle.
Can you prove that you daughter has not been messing with the charger, knocked it out of its socket by falling over the wire or even stuck something in it? It cant just suddenly happen, something must have caused it to happen.
No One and I mean No One, deserves to be treated like trash, just because they work in Retail! :mad:0 -
Over the years I've seen a number of poorly built DC power sockets and seen the aftermath of burnups resulting from them (in one case, a housefire) Quite frankly there is NO situation which should occur where cable abuse results in the socket getting hot enough to melt its surrounds.
This kind of thing would fail both CE and UL testing (if you fail UL testing, you don't get to sell things in the USA or Canada).
Take it to your local trading standards people and query product safety.
Being HP doesn't mean anything. The days of "product quality" went out the window shortly after HP and Compaq merged and nowadays they're just a purveyor of cheap and nasty tat.0 -
