In some cases yes and in others no.

If the till says £1 and the shelf label says £1 how is someone on a customer service desk supposed to know if the person at head office meant to set the price at £1 or not?

If the price at the shelf says £1 and the till says £1 and there is a mistake, it does not seem the customer service desk can detect that mistake in their records.

When I went to customer service I thought somehow they could (not being an expert in these matters). I was actually thinking if the change originated from the store, I certainly could be told of an error or not.

It all depends what the operator did when I made my inquiry on the Friday. If the operative thought themselves the price looks suspect they might have checked and found the label incorrectly marked. Service did not say that occurred, ineed, because the till price matched. But, you may say, why should the operator suspect the price if it can change willy-nilly.

I did find out that the price has been £0.85 at Batley for 6 weeks. So, we can rule out a store-wide change Saturday. That makes the product £1 at Wakefield and £0.85 at Batley on the Friday. I suspect that is an error. Because I believe Wakefield and Batley prices are tied. If that is true the customer service would have to contact Batley and ask their price, or, headquarters.

Anyway, I'll post back when I get ASDA's response.

I wish that I had never started on this thread. I am rapidly losing the will to live.

Jeez, are we still talking about this 15p? Couldn't believe it when I logged on this morning and it was still at the top. Yes, I know, sorry folks, I have just pushed it back to the top again. Promise not to do it again.
  • I proved my point. The product sold on Friday was sold at an incorrect price. A certain common sense or intuition told me so.

Do I always query prices, if they go up, or down? No, but this time I did. Simply because of the attitude of customer service. That made me seek to get to the truth of the matter.

    Here is what ASDA said:

    "Hello Richard

Thank you for taking the time to bring this to my attention.

I'm sorry you were overcharged 0.15p in our Asda Wakefield store on Friday. All of our prices are changed on a central system and updated automatically, and after further investigation with our Buying Team I have discovered that there was a manual error at head office that put the price up to £1 for one day. I can confirm that the correct price for this product is 85p and should have been 85p.

Our colleagues in store would only be able to see the price from which the product was being scanned at, which might explain their confusion with your enquiry. Our policy in the event of an overcharge is to refund the difference, and offer a £2 gift card as a gesture of goodwill. Please can you provide me with your address information and I will send you £2.15 as a gesture of goodwill, on one of our gift cards. These can be spend in any of our Asda stores.

Thanks again for your feedback, I hope I was able to answer your query. If we can help with anything else please do not hesitate to contact us on 0800 952 0101.

    Kind regards..."

A bit of a learning experience.
