Not sure why the technician needs a table to work. What is wrong with sitting on the floor and working off the floor?

Could you outline the reasons they give for him needing a table? Can't they just send a replacement part?

You could also ask for them to come and collect it and repair it that way.

Floors = static if carpet etc.
no because your ordering takeout their business model is different not very bright are you.

And there in one posts sums up why I think you are having a problem with Dell. You need to calm down and lose the attitude and maybe you might get somewhere.

Now, have you asked Dell if they are able to adjust the point of repair to a location where said Table could be possible, say a coffee shop or other location where you could purchase a drink, have the engineer repair the item and then go on your merry ways?

Dell have been in this morning to fix up a few of the laptops in the office this morning, he was greeted, signed in, placed at a desk and allowed to his job in peace and quiet.

He did, we did. he's happy we're happy and the day moves on..

their reason is that I have to supply a safe environment so they can work which is fine they have been here many times not an issue before.
but they seem to think that environment means equipment ,
im still astounded that they even asked for this
They are not asking for tools or equipment are they, just a simple and safe environment where they can work! If you can't supply this (or an alternative) then you have no choice but to send the PC away for repair.

Why not borrow a table from a neighbour, friend or family member? It might annoy you, but you are the only one suffering because of this impasse - Dell certainly won't be affected by your PC sitting in your flat unusable.

Because he would be liable if the table broke. Imagine the liability mine field if that happened.
One important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.

I highlighted the bit in bold. You really surely can't be serious ? It's frankly a ridiculous accusation to make.

Do you really expect an on-call service technician to do his job effectively in your house if he has to sit on the floor to do so ?
Are there no tables or flat surfaces anywhere in your house that can be used ?
Do you seriously expect Dell to provide each of their service technicians with a portable table ?
"do I need to mention the liability mine field that would occur if the table I supplied failed and dammed the pc or injured the tech." No - that would be ridiculous.

    Why not

many field engineers have to do exactly that

and have to put up with the "static" problem, not that its much of an issue

I wouldn't send a potato to be peeled by them

Neither would I... I can't imagine how that would help.

don't be a smart I when your talking about this much money you want the job done correctly and not with your own furniture,
having a table or a work bench isn't the issue,
so dell are saying that anyone that doesn't own a table or lives in small home cannot have a repair done.
its not my responsibility to provide or supply tools and or equipment to a company or employee of that company to facilitate a repair ordered by dell/Alienware it is the responsibility of the service company to supply tools and equipment or the technician themselves if self employed.

and dell will not repair anywhere other than your address,
and why should I have to ask a neighbour for his property its not the thing that's the issue it just shouldn't be even on the table ,
    pardon the pun

Again, what are these tools and equipment you keep harping on about!

If you want the job to be done correctly then supply an environment where this can be done.

Do you really use your PC whilst sat on the floor? Is that not incredibly bad for your back?

BTW your title is misleading - they are not refusing to repair, but they need a suitable working environment to do their work.
