Zero hour contract sick help!!

Hello sorry this is a bit long..

I am currently 23 weeks pregnant and have just been diagnosed with spd, anxiety and depression, I am a carer so going to work is a bit difficult in so much pain. The doctor has given me a sick note for 1 month however my work does not pay sick pay as I'm on a zero hour contract (I work 16 hours each week) I currently receive housing benefit, child benefit, child care costs and working tax. What am I supposed to do with no wage can anyone please help me I'm worried sick I don't know what to do! Thanks x

  • I know that some of my colleagues who are temping apply for SSP? Is this an option for you? It's not a lot but it may help if you are entitled!

Hope you start to feel better soon.
  • hi

i would make an appointment with CAB as you are in recipet of tax credit they would have u working x amount of hours i personally would have thought as the employment itself doesnt pay the sick pay its done by the goverment (SSP) that they would put your sick pay through as the hours that tax credit have u down as working? i may be completely wrong but speak to CAB this 0 hour contracts i personally think is a crock of bs enabling employers not to pay holidays pay etc

    income related ESA,
though while you get wtc, they would be deducted from the amount you would receive

workinbg tax credits continue for 28 weeks whilst off work sick.
for income related ESA, wtc would count as income, and so they would reduve the ESA by the amount of wtc.
ESA assessment rate id £72 a week. they would deduct the amount you receive in wtc and pay you tha balance

But then tax credits would passport to maximum WTC (if not already being paid). It can end up in a dreadful circularity situation and so you may need to get some advice on how to deal with it.

I'm sorry if I'm being thick but if 72 pound was deducted from my working tax I'd be left with about 28 pound a week I'm only on 400 a month working tax? Xx
