How odd, I posted this 2 years ago and suddenly it has reappeared. We did buy a major buggy but she is now 11 and has a wheelchair now. we only used the major for about 2-3 months. You cannot hire them so either purchase youself or go through wheelchair services.

I need one too.. our OT said there is noone in our area provides them any more and I had to buy one.. my girls are 6 and 8 and both need one.. I used a solid pushchair until they are 5.5 and we now can rarely go anywhere if there is a lot of walking involved.. horrible isn't it?

I spoke to several local charities and had no joy. As has been previousy mentioned you could try the family fund or the disabilities council (you have a right to be at the hearing which will decide whether or not you get the funding for one) and you can also appeal if the say no.

Have you applied for DLA for her? You could get one from that if so.

    Hi there

If anyone has a Maclaren major they no longer use and would be happy to donate please let me know.

My friend has 2 boys her youngest has already had 3 heart ops to look at him you would not know, but she is prevented from daily things shopping going to the park, walks ect she drives but hubby is in the forces so finds it hard alone and she said to me strange as it may sound I would love to be able to walk to the shops park ect.

She asked me if I know of any pushchairs suitable for a 6yr old and I said Maclaren major and that I would look into it for her.

If anyone has one they no longer use and would like to help out I will gladly arrange and pay for a courier to collect on a day to suit them.

    Many thanks in advance
  • I hope you got one fishingcinema - Was not sure if to comment on this old thread but it is good to bump it for others in a similar situation x

My daughter is pretty much house bound now with my Grandson and it is heartbreaking as he used to LOVE to go out but now refuses to go anywhere even a few steps outside the house

Even Tesco Express across the road is a no no now and as she lives alone so there is no one to watch him if she needs to pop to the shops...

She usually ends up carrying him ( while he's screaming ) and at nearly 6 years old with a hearty appetite he is way too heavy for her but she has no option

So we are looking into getting him a Maclaren Major now but with limited funds it is difficult and it takes ages to get one through the OT

It is just hard to watch them both stuck in the house during the school holidays and at weekends now and it is really distressing for both of them to go ANYWHERE let alone Nanny being able to take him out which I used to love but is impossible now! :(:( xx
