How would you share a mega-lottery win

I'd buy myself a big a$s house with some land to keep horses and rescue donkeys.
Plus a city centre flat.
I'd give my parents more than enough to buy whatever car/house etc. they wanted. Same for my brother.
I'd give a sizeable chunk to my daughters surgeon to improve facilities for other children suffering from the same conditions. Her care has been outstanding but I know how stretched the facilities are.The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt.Bertrand Russell0 -
Like the last poster: My family don't need money and I'm not sure they'd be too willing to accept.
I'd put the money to the younger members of the family though (just like my will). I wouldn't tell them at the time, but it would be there in the wings for them, if they get into uni and cannot afford it, or to give them a boost after uni, so that they can go on for another degree or to start a business.
I'm not religious, but follow the guidance of this one:
‘to whom much is given, much will be required’ (Luke 12:48)
I have a subset set aside for charities in my will, and would do the same in a lottery win. I like my life now, so any extra money would just be a bonus, something special to help someone else--and that would be why I was entrusted with it, to make that happen.
Good question OP, thanks for making me think tonight!0 -
I'd pay off my mortgage and completely redecorate and buy some new furniture for the rooms that need it. I'd have a new kitchen fitted and a new bathroom as well. I might consider converting the loft into a usable room - it is floored, but not accessible on a daily basis as the loft ladder gets in the way, and it doesn't have any windows. I love the area where I live, though, and have no desire to move elsewhere.
I'd make sure that my kids were ok - one has a mortgage, and two are still at school. I think a fund that pays out interest would be best (not sure about the details of these though). Obviously this fund would be in addition to paying off my daughter's mortgage and paying for a house for my youngest son when the time comes. My older son (middle child) is disabled and will never be independent, so special care would be needed to set up a trust fund to ensure that his needs are well catered for in the future. My daughter would be one of the trustees.
I'm going to be a granny at Christmas, so money would be set aside for my grandchild and future grandchildren.
My mum is eighty, so I would make sure that she has everything she needs or wants for the rest of her life. I know she would love a new back wall in the garden, but it is way too expensive for her. She would also like to remodel her bungalow so that her bathroom is big enough to allow for a separate shower - at the moment, it is over the bath.
My sister and her family are really important to me, so they would have a substantial gift. I'd also pay my niece's way through university so that she didn't end up with a student debt.
A couple of close friends would be next on my list.
I have a few favourite charities that I would support, mainly local charities. My local community centre would definitely receive a donation, and so would my Rainbows and Brownies units (I'm Brown Owl). I would also support local Guiding and the disability group that I help to run.
I'd treat a number of parent carers that I know, not sure how, but I'm sure that there would be a few suggestions.
For myself, I would have a cleaner and a chef. I'd have a weekly massage and facial. Maybe a pedicure every now and then as well. And I'd live off the interest.0 -
Winning millions of ££'s seems to have ruined a lot of lives by changing the dynamics of relationships and taking away many people's sense of purpose in life. If I won a big prize (unlikely as I only ever do the smaller prize scratchcards) I'd have to think long and hard about the negative effects it may have on my nearest and dearest.
Depends on one's "sense of purpose".
My current sense of purpose is to work so that I can pay the bills that I am expected to pay. That is my role in society, and I fulfil it without any enjoyment.
If I won the lottery, I would be able to meet my societal obligations, and spend the rest of my time doing things that I enjoy, and suing everyone who ever wronged me. I might also make my full time job just constantly campaigning to change the things I hate in this country. With millions in the bank I'll probably decide it's not worth it, and spend my money on moving to another country whose systems I prefer.
If we're talking fantasy, I'd get myself an extra secure luxury apartment (like that one in Limitless) with a gym, swimming pool, music room and squash/badminton courts
You would be able to drive into an elevator that lifts you up lots of floors, or you drive into a port and the car disappears and you've got instant access to the property that no one else can see. It would be surrounded by CCTV and have electric shocks to deter burglars (or something legal). How about one of those loud voices that shouts "DANGER - INTUDER ALERT" when someone approaches?
If I actually won the lottery then I suppose I'd be a lot more boring and sensible. Who would I share it with? I'd bequeath it to a university for a scholarship to a student who suffers as much as I have in life so that maybe they won't waste most of their graduate years being miserable and just paying the bills because it's what we're supposed to do.0 -
Pay off parents' mortgage and both my sibling's mortgages too. Give enough to nieces and nephews so they could buy a property. OH doesn't get on with his family so they would get nothing.
OH would buy a new car (we have never had a brand new car) but he wouldn't want anything flashy. We would buy a house (we rent) but only an ordinary 2 or 3 bed as neither of us see the point in a big house just for the sake of it.
We would travel. Neither of us have travelled much and we both regret it although. Maybe get a camper van to travel round the UK and go abroad a couple of times a year where we would stay somewhere nice, but again not an expensive flashy hotel.
Give lots to charities - animal ones, ones for children, ones for homeless. I would also love to build some sort of accommodation for homeless people - maybe convert an unused office building (certainly enough of those about!).The world is over 4 billion years old and yet you somehow managed to exist at the same time as David Bowie0 -
I think I would share it equally between myself and my cat lol. I would'nt be interested in giving to distant family who I dont see one year end to the next.
I would buy a brand new VW camper van and go touring round the Islands and highlands and think about what I wanted to do with the rest of it. Basically I've got most things I want anyway. I dont think money buys happiness, probably I would give a lot to animal rescues where they dont PTS and wildlife reserves.0 -
I would buy a house for my mother, she had to sell hers when my step dad died a few years ago and has to work really hard to afford rent now.
I would take her on holiday with myself, my children, my younger sister and my niece.
That's about it really. I don't know who else I would share it with.0 -

wow, I can't believe a potential multi-millionaire wants to tour where I live! I'm living part of your dream!
mmmmm ..... maybe should go and count blessings which I already have .... lovely DD, perfect DGS, 3 minute commute to work, good health, perfect friends ................ just need a handsome hunk!:rotfl:0 -
Me and OH have decided if we ever win the big one that we'll keep quiet about it. We will say we had a small win and then we'd be able to spoil some people and sort out MIL's house.
Tbh though we don't have a lot of family between the both of us and we could easily blag a new work contract (OH self employed) that would explain holidays and a new car. The rest of the family would just mither the hell out of us for money, then more money till there was nothing left... then they'd disappear back to wherever they came from, never to be seen again.
It'd be easier to keep it a secret than deal with the family members that would use us
It's been so long since we won anything on the lottery that I nearly wet myself with excitement when we got 3 numbers and won £25. It was £10 last time we wonEven if you stumble, you're still moving forward.0 -
City centre apartment with a roof terrace, one for each kid, one nice little cottage on the moors with a recording studio out the back. And a large patch of native woodland where badgers and other wildlife were encouraged and protected.
Then there would be a couple of really good friends who have been there for me; they'd probably refuse, but I'd be happy to give them enough to have somewhere of their own, pay off debts incurred and give them breathing space to decide what they wanted from their future, including funding any charities they supported.
My biological family, other than one brother, would know absolutely nothing of it. My family are the people I choose to be in my life because they improve it by being there, not the people I happen to share some genes with.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0
