I don't see the point of that - holidays are hard enough to pay for as a family so having a singleton go for it seems pure greed

I might start going for the wedding & baby stuff just for the hell of it :D

I agree with you just like I wouldn't enter for a holiday for 2 as I have 2 children
I am a comping addict, I comp for fun but I love a postman knocking on my door
  • Seriously?

Some of the comments on here are ridiculous.
I am a 21-year old university student who gets money from student finance to survive. Whilst I appreciate that it is hard for families to finance holidays, they are not the ONLY category of people who cannot afford them!
Why should that entitle me to win a holiday any less than you?

I am not greedy, this is the first thing I've won for a year.
I don't judge other people on what they enter- so why am I being unfairly judged for what I've won?

I spy the green-eyed monster somewhat.

Anyway, thanks for those people commenting kind things. :)

Part of the Furniture I won, I won, I won!
    Thanks Eleanor!

It was actually a Sainsburys comp, but we shall see!
Just to clear it up I wasn't expecting to replace the kids places with adults but just go with a friend :D

Sure that will be totally fine. Congrats :D

Really hope you get to go! Well done

People with children will enter things for two people and people without children will enter things for families. It will always happen if the t&c's don't disagree with it. (Not all people do this, of course) it completely depends on the person/situation. I only think it's in the grey area when for example the holiday is 100% family orientated to the point where it has been designed around children being included and all the activities are for children. I wouldn't enter something like that but if the holiday is very general with no children activities and the T&c's don't disagree I would enter. I have seen a lot of holiday competitions which have the word 'family' included in the prize but sometimes they don't always specifically mean children, family can mean different things which is why it is important to read t&c's.

I think a holiday is different to say baby food as the food would go to waste (if the person entered with no intention of using the prize)
With holidays the prize will still be used, maybe not to the fullest it could be but it's really down to the prize provider to make judgement.

I always enter family competitions in the hope that I can negotiate getting the 12 year old on board as it's such a grey area. What's the difference? I wouldn't enter a wedding competition or a baby one. A holiday is different though especially as lots of hotels charge for the room and not the age of the people in it. However, I wouldn't enter anything that involved driving as I can't do that. Each to their own.

    Congrats OP!

You could always claim your child has been abducted.
  • Well Done

I just hope you realise you have to drive their (you just get a ferry crossing included as part of the prize), from getting off the ferry in St Malo it is a 375km (233 miles approx) drive, Google states approx 4 hours driving time.
466 miles round trip from St Malo, if you get approx 30 miles per gallon out of your car, that would be around £90 in fuel costs alone. And then their is the mileage of getting from where you live to Portsmouth and back.

You will also need to read up regarding driving in France and the legal requirements of items you will need to carry in the car (IE breathalyser)

hope it all works out well for you and you have a great holiday
