Tyre wear query

I was asking if the wear from 6mm to 0mm in 12,000 miles is feasible or not. My driving style has not changed and is not aggressive, neither is my braking.
as i said in my first post it is possible that a trye will wear from 6 mm to 0 mm in 12 thousand, assuming the tyre started its life on 9 mm then that would equate to around 18 thousand miles on a set of tyres not an exact science but just a guesstimate
the reason i asked do you check your tyres is 0 mm 1 mm 0 mm is a shocking state for a tyre to be in and no part of that tyre meets the required minimum tread of 1.6 mm
a 0/1/0 measurement would also point towards an under inflated tyre where you have more wear on the shoulders and less wear on the centre of the tyre
as i said before i would be asking to see the tyres to confirm for myself that they were really that bad
when you check a front tyre spin the wheel to full lock and you have a clear view over at least half the tyre and it makes it a lot easier to check0 -

What mileage did these tyres go on the car?
When did you last check the tyres, even just a quick scan.
I usually park up with the front wheels turned to give a quick easy scan across the tread, each time the chances are you look at a new bit of tyre, turn the other way occationaly0 -
You can get a good enough idea just running your fingers across the tread at the top of the tyre, if you can touch the bottom of the tread at any point it needs further investigation.
0/1/0 does sound like they've been underinflated for a while0 -
this, there are ware indicators on the tyres. just theredo you ever look at your tyres?
it is entirely possible that a tyre has worn down to that kind of measurement in 12 thousand miles, a lot will depend on driving how the car has been driven
if they have been changed i would have asked to see the old tyres just to see how bad they were , but the measurements you gave your tyres were illegal

The amount of wear indicated is entirely possible on the front wheels of a front wheel drive car, even if the tyres are correctly inflated and the wheel alignment is correct. The front tyres are being asked to do a lot on a front wheel drive car.
Lots of things contribute to the rate at which tyres wear - inflation and wheel alignment, the tyre itself (some are softer than others), driving style, amount of motorway mileage and so on.Proud member of the wokerati, though I don't eat tofu.Home is where my books are.Solar PV 5.2kWp system, SE facing, >1% shading, installed March 2019.Mortgage free July 20230 -
I'm obsessed with tyres. I'm always checking them, and I replace them when the tread gets down to around 3mm.0
