So just to clarify, do customers have to make sure they are connected to specific networks whilst in a "feel at home" country, or it is automatic?0

It's automatic, you can only connect to allowed networks.====0 -
It's automatic, you can only connect to allowed networks.

Well, yes, if there was more than one feel at home partner you can manually choose the weaker signal if you wished (the handset should always be connecting to the strongest allowed signal).
My reply was in answer to the question posed by dealer wins, which is that the phone will only connect to allowed networks, and that the procedure is automatic.====0 -
I use the Three network in UK. I am in Northern France at present, have been for the last 2 weeks and have not been able to use any data on my phone or tether it to a device (which is in my plan) and have only occasionally been able to make or receive calls or send or receive texts. On the other hand my husband uses O2 in UK and has had flawless service here in France, although I realise this will cost and is not part of his plan. If I had known the service here would have been so abysmal I would have been happy to pay for a service that works. What is the point of giving customers a service when it doesn't work?0

After 3 the best option, which includes whole EU and Switzerland may be O2 Travel:

Put an O2 pay and go SIM in, get 50mb data for £1.99.
When I used this in Switzerland it was nearly always 2G but coverage and speed on data seemed better than UK 3G.0 -
Because if you were in a different area, it probably would? Which is no different to being at home.
Where I feel misled, is there is a seperate issue for Europass. Here I am invited to pay £5 per day for unlimited data until 23:59 UK time. However, like Feel At Home, the networks are restricted.
I was in Romania and Bulgaria only to discover the networks I connected to could ONLY provide GPRS. Other 3G networks were available but I could not roam using them. Making the £5 investment pointless.
There IS a silver lining, however.
Having returned from a cruise, previously my phone always was 'captured' by the ships on board cellular service. This was switch on when the ship left port and used satellite technology to connect calls inbound and outbound. Using the 3UK SIM. This did not happen as it refused a connection to this vastly more expensive network.0 -

Tethering is not included on any plan for Feel at Home.
Not sure why you would think it was, Three are quite clear on the Feel at Home webpage.
Perhaps they've blocked your internet use due to your attempts to tether? You can't use your phone as a personal hotspot (tethering) while you're abroad.====0 -
Good suggestion about blocking internet due to tethering, however it is allowed for mobile broadband mifi customers.
PS try turning the phone off & back on.Certain OTT members have caused me to add this disclaimer: all advice given is free of charge & as such should be taken to be IIRC (as I don't spend hours researching all answers  )!0 -

Having you tried to select an alternative network manually? Between Bouygues and Free.0
