Washing machine not spinning

I hope you can get it easily repaired but if you need a new machine do you have any companies near you that sell them reconditioned?
My first washing machine was a reconditioned Hotpoint for £90 that lasted me 8 years with only 2 minor repairs. I am now on my second which cost me £100 last year & I have had no problems with it so far (touch wood.)0 -
when this happened it was the drive belt had broken - and that's something you can see yourself if you take the back off. if it isn't that - then call out a local repairman to take a look.0

Another one voting for 'get a repair man out'. When our machine stopped spinning it was the brushes. The repair man came out, did a temporary repair until the new parts came in, then popped back to fix it it few days later. £40 all in.
Wow, that's cheap. When we had problems with our Bosch they (I think it was a Bosch engineer) wanted about £90 just for the call-out charge :eek:The report button is for abusive posts, not because you don't like someone, or their opinions0 -

As a general rule, the manufacturers repair people charge loads more than the local repair guys. They tend to be booked up about a week in advace as well, now I've discovered our local firm they come out the same or next day for £40Decluttering, 20 mins / day Jan 2024 2/20 -
This happened to my previous washing machine, and it was because the carbon brushes had worn down, but the spring-loading mechanism (which is supposed to keep them pushed up against the contacts on the motor) had seized up so wasn't pushing the brush onto the motor. I could see a gap. I literally gave the brush a firm tap with a screwdriver handle and it popped forward and made solid contact. After that it was fine.0

Hi all,
Just thought I'd give a little update...
Local repair man charges £45 call out fee before parts. So unless the parts are less than £30 then it's not financially viable to pay that. My machine is 8 years old {much loved!} so would be better off in the long run buying a new machine if it's going to cost £80+ to fix.
It's not the belt as I checked and it's in extremely good condition! It is not spinning at all, regardless of weight distribution as I've tried with clothes in and out and it just doesn't spin at all. It makes all the right sounds and just doesn't spin!
So frustrating.
I've taken to washing clothes in the bath temporarily {much to the dismay of my feet and OH's hands!}.PAD 2023 Debt total as of Dec 2022 £18,988.63*April £17,711.03

Ring round and see if someone can look at it for nothing. Worth a go? What about asking on your local buy/sell facebook page?0

Ahhh, a bit too far for my repair man to travel. He doesn't charge of it can't be fixed.0
