Could you get a new one on finance from Currys for example?

Getting someone to fix something like this (that sounds like a knackered motor frankly,) may well cost half the price of a washing machine.

If you can't afford to get it fixed OR get one on finance/buy one new; I am not sure what else you can do to be honest. Sorry...

Good luck. I would HATE to be without mine!!!!!!!
Proud to have lost over 3 stone (45 pounds,) in the past year! :j Now a size 14!

I have bad credit and have worked hard to pay my credit card off, the only option I may possibly have is putting it on the credit card and paying it off after the wedding when money is less tight!

From what you said in the other thread it's the brushes that have gone and they can be easily repaired. The manufacturers repair system will cost a small fortune and try to sell you expensive insurance. Find a small local repair guy and he should be able to fix it easily for (I guess) less than £50 . The parts will be cheap most will be the call out fee.

Weirdly, this might be the rubber band.

When this happened to me, the rubber drive belt which connected the motor with the drum gears had slipped and needed to be stretched back around the posts it had been attached to.

After the first time, the guy showed me what to do in the event of it happening again and I had to put the rubber band back once more.

This may not need to mean a new machine, you need to find yourself a half decent repair man.
 Don't know what I'm doing, but doing it anyway...

The report button is for abusive posts, not because you don't like someone, or their opinions
  • Find a local repairman whos noted for not being a conman and get him to look at it. If its reasonable to fix like not over £70.00 then get it fixed. If its more than this I would get a new one thats got a good discount on it.

My zanussi does this intermittently, its about 4 or 5 yrs old. Have you tried the separate spin only option? Try it a couple of times. Dont panic or giveup on it yet.

    Hi all,

Thanks for all your responses - you're a fab bunch and I appreciate it! Yes I've tried the spin option and it just clicks the door shut, then sits there!

I have got the number for a local repair man, who I believe isn't a conman {I hope} and will speak to him before getting him out to see if it's cheaply fixed.

I'm a sentimental thing, and the thought of getting rid of the washing machine my Dad bought me whilst I was pregnant with DD upsets me!

Fingers crossed it can be fixed and I will keep you all updated :)

    Thanks again x

Another one voting for 'get a repair man out'. When our machine stopped spinning it was the brushes. The repair man came out, did a temporary repair until the new parts came in, then popped back to fix it it few days later. £40 all in.
  • My Zanussi machine which is 7 years old has done this a few times . Latest episode was 2 days ago . Sounds strange but sometimes when the weight distribution of the laundry is not right in the drum of the machine it refuses to spin. In my case I had to remove the heavy towels in the load, wring them out by hand then put them back in and spin them separately. Another time I have just moved the load around in the drum and it started spinning. Also there was a time the connection(hose) at the back of the machine got twisted so we straightened it out and the machine started working again. All strange but true as the machine is washing a load now. I do hope your problem machine is just temperamental but you may need to get it looked at. Good luck .
