Just looking for some opinions from people here as I haven't kept up with the latest handsets for a while...
Looking to upgrade my S3 in a couple of months and looking to get a free handset on around £25-£30 per month max (with good data usage). I'm thinking I'll probably just go for a good deal on the S5 but wondered if anyone had any suggestions for other handsets to look at? I have no idea which alternatives are worth considering...
I know there is probably a long list and much depends on preferences but just wanted thoughts on what people consider to be the "best" all-round android phone available today for around that price point.

For me the best currently are LG G3, HTC one (m8), Sony Xperia Z2, S5, Nexus 5 (i know its old but still considered one of the best for Pure Android UI)
It all depends on Which Android OEM skin you prefer. me I cannot stand Touchwiz (Samsung skin) and prefer pure android. But as per your post you state a couple months i would wait as android new phones come out on a weekly basis by different OEMs. and from what i have read on the rumors samsung is about to release 3 new Galaxy device this month and nxt, Google is going release in the nxt couple months the next Nexus, Moto is going to release its nxt Moto x, Sony a Z3, Apple a new Iphone, so its as you would have to wait see what comes up in the next couple months closer to your upgrade for your Price Range and upgrade then and do not forget you will get better prices for the handsets that currently expensive as they will deemed old (but no way are they old so do not write them off)0 -

But i would start with what feature's you want first .0 -
Samsung are going to be releasing the S5 mini in the next couple of weeks, I had a quick play on one earlier today and they seem pretty good. Although it's a mini, it's not much smaller than the S4. Personally, I don't like the Xperia Z range. I found their UI cumbersome and didn't offer the ease anywhere near what Touchwizz does (but that's my opinion). Unless Apple do something radical with the next iPhone and iOS I can't really see much point in investing the money, plus you won't get a decent deal on one because Apple are greedy!!0

Hi, I'm in a similar situation as my contract runs out next month so just wondering what your thoughts were on the suggested handsets. I will check out reviews but its always good to get other people's opinions.
I'm probably leaning more towards £25 rather than £30 and does this rule out 4G? Data wise what sort of offers are normal?0 -
same here im on s3
cant look past the s5 at the moment although why is it so expensive, cheapest is 28 per month + 42 cashback..
i got my s3 at a similar stage for £22 a month0 -

Sony don't really skin their Android devices, the interface on their current devices is pretty much stock Android.

Its expensive because its currently a £549 phone. Thats almost £23 a month over 24 months, So the network is making £5 a month on the contract at £28 a month.
Yes we know they wont have paid anywhere near retail price for it. But they wont be giving it to you for free either so someone pays.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
I am in a similar situation but have decided to wait for a few months. For the top end of that price range you should be able to get the likes of an S5 or Z2 (if you are not too fussy about the network). I dont really see that much in any of the new phones really that makes me want to sign another 2 year contract. The S5 still looks like cheap plastic crap (Like all other samsungs) and has nothing new usable over the S4 and i cant stand the samsung UI. The Z2 seems to be far too unreliable with a very evident lack of any sort of quality control which really puts me off but i do love the sony UI and the Z2 has a monster camera.0
