I'd say the first step in rooting is to find out exactly what phone it is.
Yours doesn't seem to match the specs of what you say it is.

Why do you think rooting it will allow you to move more stuff to SD?
The problem with old Android phones was the amountof RAM they had limiting what could be installed. There was an option to move apps to SD but not all of the app got moved and not all apps could be moved at all. All you'd be able to do with a rooted version is get shot of some of the inbuilt apps and maybe install a leaner ROM leaving a bit more room for apps.

My mistake, thought there would be little difference between specs of the Arc and the "S". But there is a huge gulf. We live and learn...that the internal memory of a phone is paramount. Isn't the main reason for rooting to move apps over thus freeing up internal space? By the way (to my other "helpers" on this thread) the phone certainly wasn't cheap :p although in 2 months it'll be 2 years old since bought.

Moving apps is one reason out of many to root .
Not all apps can be moved all depends upon the firmware .

Be aware that if you root your phone you won't be able to use banking apps as they check to see if the phone has been rooted.

Was just about to say this. Plus if you use your phone to watch nowtv, skygo and AFAIK blinkbox, that won't work either, even with root hiding programs.

The Santander app works fine on my original HTC Desire (rooted).
