Idiot Proof Android rooting please!

My Sony xperia S phone just hasn't the space for anymore apps anymore. I've done the clearing of data and cache and removed most of the photos/music, but still not enough room.

So can anyone guide me through the process of doing this, in a simple way? And I mean simple. Lots of questions:

Are my remaining photos/music safe on the sd card?

Will the apps I've moved to the sd card stay there undeleted (I've got file manager, amazon kindle and BBC Iplayer amongst them)?

Will my email settings (server/port etc) remain or be lost?

If the rooting is successful which apps are safe/desirable to move to the sd card?

I've heard of one-click apps available..anygood?

Thanks, but way too technical (nerdy) for me.

Unless somebody has built a toolkit like the wugfresh one for nexus devices for your phone then you'll find rooting does require a bit of nerdiness. If you don't feel up to that then leave your phone as it is (ie working).

There are a couple of easy one click rooting for androids out there (use google). But, to be honest, if XDA is too technical and 'nerdy' for you. then rooting may not be the best option for you as kwikbreaks says.
What is your reason for wanting to root?

As I said in opening post: insufficient space for apps. A couple of apps wouldn't work properly without google play services. Google play services won't fit on anymore, I uninstalled it to create more space. The phone is about 18 months old, not really ready to buy a new one with more internal storage.

It looks like your phone has 32GB of memory. I'd suggest that rather than rooting it you just get rid of some of the dross that you've put on it already.

    Dross!...cheeky ****er :).
Internal storage: 328MB used 92MB free.
SD card: 1.6GB used 5.8GB free.

You see all that unused space on the SD card?

There's something a bit wrong there, the Sony xperia S is supposed to be 32GB.

Are you sure it's not a chinese copy?

Towelroot is probably the simplest one click root .
But a later update of the OS may wipe root and might even fix the towelroot exploit loophole .

From experience you need to read and learn if you want to get involved in any form of hacking . All Android phones / firmwares are different and its usual that the idiots that cannot be bothered to read end up with a bricked phone .
