Are you sure it's not a chinese copy?
 Hope not. Bought off Amazon's own store.0 -

It looks like your phone has 32GB of memory. I'd suggest that rather than rooting it you just get rid of some of the dross that you've put on it already.Nodding_Donkey wrote: »There's something a bit wrong there, the Sony xperia S is supposed to be 32GB.
Are you sure it's not a chinese copy? Was worried there for a minute. No the 32GB is the expandable memory (of SD card). I have an 8GB one, which is fairly superfluous as I can't move enough apps over to it.
Still no real answers to my questions here.0 -
Hmmmm...
http://www.gsmarena.com/sony_xperia_s-4369.phpSony Xperia S Also known as Sony Ericsson Xperia Nozomi, Sony Ericsson Arc HD
.

.
MEMORY Card slot No
Internal 32 GB, 1 GB RAM
.
.
I'd say the first step in rooting is to find out exactly what phone it is.
Yours doesn't seem to match the specs of what you say it is.
Why do you think rooting it will allow you to move more stuff to SD?
The problem with old Android phones was the amountof RAM they had limiting what could be installed. There was an option to move apps to SD but not all of the app got moved and not all apps could be moved at all. All you'd be able to do with a rooted version is get shot of some of the inbuilt apps and maybe install a leaner ROM leaving a bit more room for apps.0 -

Its an Arc S. The specs on that website you've quoted are plainly wrong. The SD card has a potential capacity of 32GB. The internal memory is not 32GB.0 -
A lot of people on here with a little knowledge (like me) and a little knowledge is, as they say, very dangerous. Think I need to try elsewhere....or just buy a new phone! So unMSE 'though.0

To answer your questions:
1) Are my remaining photos/music safe on the sd card?
> Yes
2) Will the apps I've moved to the sd card stay there undeleted (I've got file manager, amazon kindle and BBC Iplayer amongst them)?
> Yes
3) Will my email settings (server/port etc) remain or be lost?
> Yes
4) If the rooting is successful which apps are safe/desirable to move to the sd card?
> Any
5) I've heard of one-click apps available..anygood?
> Depends which one. Some are. Some not. But it depend sif your phone is support.
Some questions back to you:
1) Are you sure you've tried moving as many apps as possible to the SD card?

2) Have you cleared out downloaded content on apps like iPlayer?
3) If you go into Settings->Storage->Apps which are the apps taking up the most storage?0 -

That's because we have answered the question you actually asked about a:The_stingemeister wrote: »My Sony xperia S phone

The specs are right for the Xperia S, you told us the wrong phone. You've bought a cheap phone with little capacity, the answer, as you've said yourself now, is to buy a better one.

To quote Techrader's review: "...right up there with the best 2011 has to offer", shame it's 2014 now.

Thanks.
1. Yes all that will.
2.I don't download from it, just stream (its actually Iplayer Radio I use).
3.On the internal memory: Office Suite 59MB. WhatsApp 22MB. Avast 14MB. These are the top 3. I'm guessing office and avast can't/shouldn't be moved anyway.0
