There is next to no difference in pic quality between lcd/plasma - especially if you're going for the most budget model you can find.

There can be a vast difference between Plasma and LCD quality

yes and there can be a vast difference between LCD and LCD quality and Plasma and Plasma quality. I'm saying if you shop arround and choose a decent set there will be little difference between LCD and Plasma.

I dunno , the FIL has one of the latest Sammys which are supposed to be one of the best LCD's and the picture is no where near as good as my Panny plasma, his suffers from blocky pictures when watching normal TV and you can see it on DVD's as well but not as much,he rekons its a very good picture but his wife says its crap and tells him so ! , i get none of this on my Panny plasma

Check out the forums below lots of advice on there :

Since starting this thread I have been doing lots of reading at AV forums and I have also been surfing the net for the best prices. There was a few in the running after I finally set my pre 650.00 budget, but I narrowed it down to three LG's. 42PC55 & lg42pcid & LG42PX5D

I have decided to go for the all black LG which is supposed to have spanking performance to rival the samsungs and pannys. I will only use it to watch telly with and im not really into sports or gaming.

    Ive decided on the LG42PX5D.

The best price that I can find is £620 delivered, but I need to know if any of the following retailers have any discount codes and cashback available to make it the best overall price. A little help would be really appreciated.

    aj electronics - LG42PX5D £620.00
    prcdiret 620.40
    electrical experience 620.50
    tribaluk.com 659.77 - £15 discount for using code PRICE15
    avc direct 620.40
    empire direct 679.99

The LG42PX5D is over a year old now here is a review http://www.trustedreviews.com/tvs/review/2006/06/08/LG-42PX5D-42in-Plasma-TV/p1

As plasmas have changed so much over recent months i would go for a newer model which will have the latest panel technology in it.

Deanos, many thanks for the response.

I just want a nice big telly at a nice price and its driving me daft trying to get through the plasma minefield. Which one would you recommend for under £650 then ?

I would stretch your budget slightly and go for the latest Samsung which is £724 at Currys and there is a £30 discount code (AW30JULY) makes it £694 and if you have a Egg Card there is 7% cashback or 3.5% Quidco

Apparently Currys/Dixons have there own model number but its the same as this one

Deano, very much apprecite the comments, but I dont really want to stretch the budget(again). My original target was £600 as you can probably tell from my original posts.

And im going to stick to that. I did however discover that aj electronics had the telly that you recommended for £694.00 delivered without any discount codes.

    Cheers
    A

Ok m8 its up to you but in the long run you may regret getting a lower spec TV to save £50 especially on something you will watch every day
