Also why are you speculating how it was done.
This is a very good question. I also notice we are not getting answers to the questions asked, perhaps because there aren't any answers? And no feedback from the OP as to how the visit to the branch went.

The transaction was done on the 28th of July and it is now the 1st of august. I mostly use the phone banking app, and it still has not shown this transaction on there
if you are saying you can see the transaction on your PC but not on your mobile app, you are making things up.

How can I see what phone number is on my account?

I left my PC on and when I came back I saw the Santander login page... I just thought I had been on it before I left.

As this is clearly not my fault...
While I do agree with you, there is a big flaw in your statement as you have said "I left my PC on", which running with your suspicions (which are clearly wrong), then it would be your fault because you think someone can take control of your banking if you simply left your PC on.

    Re-installing Windows was pointless.

As you seem to be so clued up on how "hackers" control computers, please... tell us all how they can control your PC and manage to transfer money out of your bank (at such a particular value), without bumping into any security.

    Can't tell us?

That's because there is no way.

Forget what you think has happened, as it clearly hasn't.

And as others have asked, what are the details next to the transaction, such as a name of where it went?

"OP" has just came back from the bank.
I spoke to a nice woman and she rang the fraud department.
They asked me a bunch of questions regarding the account and said it will get seen to at Monday earliest, and then I have to wait up to a week.

There was another number somehow attached to the account, and it was the primary number on the account, and it was not my number. They woman from the fraud department said it was added around a few weeks ago, and was done via calling them up.

The nice woman from the branch said there was some strange activity on my account, and said there is no reason I will not get my money back.

I will update this thread when I receive any news~

*Edit; They have locked my account down, I have no way to get a statement without going back into the bank with ID. All I know off the top of my head is that it was done by Faster Payments, and had a reference number attached to it.

Where was your PC and who had access to it?

What is the detail given for the £502.xx withdrawal?

What did the Santader branch say?
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

My PC is in my room.
The woman said an OTP was given, but I have 0 knowledge of this.
The branch said They see no reason why I won't get my money back, and she saw everything on my account.

    .

Santander will never change numbers over the phone, In the unlikely event they do, you would still recieve a message on your phone to confirm the number change.
I recently changed mine, it would not allow me to do it online or over the phone. I had to go to the branch with ID and as soon as it was updated, my old number recieved a message to confirm or call them.

The bit in bold is most odd; I've just retired and had to get a new mobile; changed the number on my Santander account online and then transferred a sum to one of my other bank accounts straight afterwards. No problems, but you do need to still have the old phone. This was earlier this week.
The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....

    OK, quick update.

This was very fast on Santander's part.
I have received an email stating that the £502.xx has been added into my account. Around an hour later I got another email from the fraud department.

The email asked me to reinstall Rapport and seek help from their support team. I did so and they asked for me to send them the 64 digit code.
Please send this back to us via email and we will then pass this onto our IT department who will be able to ensure Trusteer Rapport is installed sufficiently and protecting your computer as it should be. When the 64 digit reference is returned I will order you new Internet Banking details.

    followed by
I can confirm that I have deleted the compromised internet banking details from your account.

So they(from what I interpret) have confirmed it was compromised and have given me my money back as a result. Fair play to Santander in this one, helped me out in a big way!

If I am wrong, please correct me..

Just stated the facts and personal experience, perhaps Santander system had a problem or even maybe the system is designed to deal case by case.

Then I have no idea how another phone number got onto my account. I plan to ring them on Monday(I think their fraud office closes around now, again, if someone can tell me otherwise...), to see what went wrong and how I can avoid it in the future.

Responsibly always lies with the user in the end, but it's nice for the banks to reimburse the full amount.
