Debt collectors are mere representatives. They can take you to court, acting on behalf of the creditor - if they haven't bought the debt of course in which case they are the creditor.

We once received a scary looking, red final demand from Telewest for the incredible sum of -£7.50, threatening disconnection and all the usual nastiness.

They really wanted us to accept that money I guess.

Why should someone pay for a phonecall or stamp to tell a debt collection company to stop chasing them for a non-existant debt?

    If I ring a 01, 02 or 03 number it's free ;)

This is a money saving webite, so if you really ring these numbers free then it would be helpful to share how you do it. (Without paying for an inclusive calling plan/package etc, which of course isn't free at all)

I can see what façade is trying to say.

Just because there is no actual debt it doesn't mean that the 'machine' won't continue to send out letters etc and escalate it to different debt collectors and so on.

Now it may be that the OP is quite happy and finds it amusing to keep on receiving all this rubbish but for me it's a lot more simple to just call, inform them they've cocked up and get it sorted now.

p.s. Yes a debt collector can and does take people to court. Can't actually believe that someone would dispute that.

Yes it will be laughed out of court- except you will owe debt collection fees etc- sort it out unless you like unnecessary hassle.

Don't think he would. He has no contract with the debt recovery agent. And they cannot take u to court

Only if they own the debt. Which would require a proof of transfer of debt, which would show as £0.

No - that's not correct and we were talking in general terms not just this one for £zero.
