For those with poor in-building coverage on Three, if they have broadband with WiFi the Three InTouch App for iPhone and Android should help.
See the Three Blog for more information. http://blog.three.co.uk/2014/07/30/three-intouch/
Unfortunately, it initially appears to only work for UK IP addresses. If it would also work from abroad without needing the complication, and potential expense, of a VPN tunnel to a UK IP address it would be brilliant.

... or use Skype?
Three used to promote its Sky facility quite aggressively. And Skype works internationally.0 -
This has been rumoured for a while, so it's good to see it arrive, but the reviews on the Play store aren't great so far, with plenty of people observing that it doesn't work on rooted phones.
Edit: I just installed it, and it says my phone is rooted. I thought that involved the owner taking certain technical steps to achieve it, and I have not modified the phone at all.0 -
It works okay but isn't brilliant like most VOIP applications - I would say the sound quality is similar to Viber.
The application keeps running in the background even when turned off which is a pain.
Also needs activated via a 3 data connection (initially and when the app is updated ) requires the three.co.uk APN rather than 3internet APN and will not activate when using 2G (EE) coverage.
Better than nothing but not as good as a real signal or even signal box. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Not available for Symbian.0

Maybe but millions still use Symbian.0

BUMP
Is anyone trying this app
I'm finding it a bit 'buggy'
Texts seem to use the three app rather than my own android one and phone calls likewise
Incoming calls only give a short ring of my customised musical ringtone
