    Always have a backup.

Agree, and even easier to do if there is two of you. Also worth checking for the best cards to use abroad: http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/travel/cheap-travel-money

A new poster who is having some very unfortunate experiences with different banks.

The two threads that I've attempted to read taken together have me thinking either troll or someone with a highly exaggerated view of what they think banks owe them.
  • not having much luck are you two different banks causing the same problems for you anyway i would seriously be careful about slagging companies off on here as they can easily read it and cause you more problems .

Any way it does not help you now but if you are going abroad in the future make sure to tell the bank the exact dates and place you are going to so they can note it on your account to avoid this happening again.

As after 45 mins on hold the fraud team line cut off, and tried again and didn't get through so rang the branch as they know us personally.

Have since found out if the right member of staff had been on, he said he would have just removed it for us!

Well that was stupid as you'd been told how to fix the issue and you ignored it.

I would also be amazed if branch staff could remove a fraud block on an account.

    Thank you for your replies, yes the moment that we returned from Poland we took all the relevant documentation to the branch, including proof of the calls costing 500.00, the fact that we had to apply for a loan to get home; breakdown as such;

Flights we couldn't take but had paid for; 556.97
Telephone calls from Poland to Barclays: 525.54
Loan for hotel payment after card blocked and subsequent return to uk 3400.00
Private Dr, and medical bill 543.00

I haven't even included loss of earning for that period. but they have
been given all receipts and a letters including from the airline stating we were unable to checkin due to blocked card.

Wow ! Where did you stay ?

As someone has already said "taking the P" definitely

what I cant understand a debit requires money in the account, so why not just transfer to your partners account no need for a loan
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

Ok so recently myself and my partner were in Poland and used our Barclays debit card to purchase flightsicon back online. The bank then blocked the card, so when the automated machine at the airport went to validate the card it wasn't valid

I don't understand, if the payment for the flights was successfully debited from your card, why was the card subsequently needed to check in? And, if the automated machine could not verify the card at the time of purchase, why the payment was taken?

if they had done the card would have been unblocked in 10 mins but they failed leaving us stuck there.

Also as they are incistant on constantly outsourcing cheap labour in countries where english is not the first language its not surprising things like this happen.

When you check in with an e-ticket, you might get asked to verify that the ticket is yours by presenting the card the ticket was purchased with. Even train tickets that you buy online work like this.

It is feasible that the card was not blocked at the time of ticket purchase but got blocked at some stage between ticket purchase and check-in.

Actually if you read the amount correctly all of this had evidence to back up, including the 3500 loan was taken out to cover hotel costs, flights back etc!!! not that the hotel was that amount!

seriously this was my experiance and i asked for advice not to be critiscied, if you have no advice to offer don't comment!
