I feel that this is a waste of time, I came on here in good faith looking for advice and got hassle and it's a pointless thing

before you went to Poland did you advise Barclays of your travel dates and your intention to use the card abroad, Poland specifically?
Also how long had you been in Poland for? And when was the last time that you successfully used the card?
If the card was not used for some weeks or months and then a large transaction from a foreign country suddenly was attempted this might be enough for the bank's automated monitoring system to flag a suspicious transaction. The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....0 -
A new poster who is having some very unfortunate experiences with different banks.0

Some people only sign up to forums when they have complaints.0

OP Tell Barclay to make their final offer in writing so that the Financial Ombudsman can make a decision.0

Advice? Complain, escalate to FOS if unhappy.
Barclays has one of the worst rates with the FOS of any of the high street banks or insurers if you look at the ombudsman's statistics and so their business practice seems to be to low ball complaints and hope people dont take it further.
I know I have a silly little complaint open since February that they are still "investigating"0 -
How much were the flights back home ? Over £5k sounds like they were very expensive flights. Can you also prove that the phone calls were £500 ? If not, Barclays will probably only reimburse you for what they feel are reasonable call charges plus the cost of flights from Poland to the UK.0

Thank you for your replies, yes the moment that we returned from Poland we took all the relevant documentation to the branch, including proof of the calls costing 500.00, the fact that we had to apply for a loan to get home; breakdown as such;
Flights we couldn't take but had paid for; 556.97
Telephone calls from Poland to Barclays: 525.54
Loan for hotel payment after card blocked and subsequent return to uk 3400.00
Private Dr, and medical bill 543.00
I haven't even included loss of earning for that period. but they have
been given all receipts and a letters including from the airline stating we were unable to checkin due to blocked card.0 -
Why did you phone your branch after being advised to call the fraud department?DEBT FREE!
Debt free by Xmas 2014: £3555.67/£4805.67 (73.99%)
Debt free by Xmas 2015: £1250/£1250 (100.00%)0 -
As after 45 mins on hold the fraud team line cut off, and tried again and didn't get through so rang the branch as they know us personally.
Have since found out if the right member of staff had been on, he said he would have just removed it for us!0 -
Bit daft relying on just a single payment method. Always have a backup.0
