Garage fell on car

Options
My father's garage fell on my car during a severe storm and damaged my bonnet. My father's household insurance policy are refusing to cover this. The only option appears to be to sue my father, and somehow prove he has been negligent in some way (?!) - this seems rather extreme and an option I'd rather not pursue. I would be grateful for any advice in whether to try and pursue this, and if so what the best course of action would be. Thank you in advance.

What was the cause of the garage falling on the car?

What about your own car insurance?
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.
  • The storm caused the front of the garage to collapse onto the car.
  • I dont see why I should have all the extra costs having to claim off my insurance when Im not at fault.

Well if you don't want to sue him and you don't want to claim off your own insurance, then your options are for you and dad to stump up the cash out of your own pockets.
What is the reason the insurers are giving for the refusal? Was it poorly maintained?
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

Unless you can prove that your father was negligent then you have no option but to either pay yourself or put it all through your insurance.

House insurers tend not to cover damage to 3rd parties if caused by storms, that's an Act of God

Can't your dad just pay for the repairs? or you both pay half each? that would save any insurance claims and you wouldn't have to sue your dad - but in any case surely the storm would be classed as an act of God as opposed to you having to prove any negligence on the part of your father.

Lol so the garage fell on the car, looks like you will have to pay, can you and your father not go halves on the cost, should cost too much as its a bonnet, can get a bonnet from a scrappy even if a different colour.
