If you wanted have your child baptised, it would have been fairly obvious that you'd had sex at least once with the baby's father.

Surely as Christians follow Christ, who it is believed (by Christians) was the result of a virgin birth, nothing here is obvious? Perhaps he's checking for a second coming......

He sounds like a complete idiot. A) his view is in no way pragmatic, B) it can indeed harm and C) it makes no difference to the child's "start" whatsoever!!!

You've made comments against religion before, so why open a thread that clearly concerns religion??

Because you've opened it with the agenda to argue.

Have I? I read the post numerous times before having any urge to post. Not that it's actually any of your business, of course. :rotfl:

What an odd thing to say!

    Why?

It is interesting that distinction is made between C of E and Roman Catholic Godparent roles. I'm a C of E Godparent to a child being brought up Roman Catholic and I seem to have missed the distinction.

I am sure it is a failing in me that I can't see why an atheist would object to the baptising of babies. Surely if it doesn't mean anything its not an issue?

Nothing back from the OP yet. Hardly surprising, given some of the very negative responses on this thread. :(

Never heard anything like it! Loads and loads of people over the years, have had their child baptised/christened, without having much to do with the Church. (Before OR after.)

Yet many people on here are basically saying to the OP that she has no business having her baby baptised if she isn't committed to the Lord.

She came on here to ask what the vicar/father was likely to ask, she did not ask to be judged; nor did she deserve some of the comments she has received.

The OP has decided she wants her baby baptised/christened, and it's really nothing to do with anyone else, and she certainly doesn't deserve to be grilled about it!

You don't think she deserves to know her children could resent her making that decision for them, then?

You have forgotten that Mary was told what was going to happen before the birth.

I would have thought that the OP would have mentioned it if she had had a visit from the angel Gabriel.

I have never in my LIFE, ever known anyone furious at their parents for having them christened.

I have known a few people who were quite cross with parents for NOT having them christened though.

What harm can it POSSIBLY do? How is being christened EVER going to affect a person's life?!
