GAME - Xbox 360 Sale of Good Act
Comments
-
I purchased my xbox 360 from GAME on 31/03/06 and today it has broken down (3 red lights). Now Microsoft recently admitted the fault and have extended there guarantee for the issue from 1 to 3 years. They also have a 25 day wait on console repairs!
Am I right in thinking I should be able to take the console back to GAME for repair or replacement under the sale of goods act? I phoned the shop but the guy that answered was very argumentative and did not seem to understand the law "reasonable time is a year".
You are outside of the 3 year warranty anyway......0 -

Found this topic through google and it seems to be old but still hope for some advice
I sent word to Game about my 18 months old console so far saying how 18 months is not enough for the console to last and how it is internal hardware problem.
"[...]Thank you for your email.

Don't know what they will do with it but worth a go. I can get them copy of receipt but I have no clue what covering letter is and what it should say.0 -
I have always found Game to be extremely helpful. DS's PS3 went back- with receipt and originalpackaging and there was no problem. They exchanged it for a brand new PS3 slim with a smile.0

Do you think I'd get away with using the SoGA after just over 5 years? I got it in May 2006 and it's just got the red ring of death
I still have the receipt, bought from HMV.0 -

Not with HMV, they'll tell you to prove it's an inherent fault with the design of the system. You may have better luck with Microsoft.0 -

The proble is the SoGa doesnt apply to Microsoft. Only the seller.
It's proved to be an inherent fault. Microsoft acknowledge it:

All very well and good, but do you really think HMV will roll over 5 years after it was bought?
The SOGA states that an item must last a reasonable amount of time in relation to the amount paid for it. HMV will argue that 5 years is about standard lifespan based on the price paid - it's not like it's a £2,000 tv0 -
Yep. That's the question I was asking really.
Is 5 years not a reasonable amount of time considering they are still providing support and selling games for this console. Together with the fact it's a known and acknowledged manufacturing fault.0
