I dont really think the dealer has a leg to stand on TBH.
Also, where are they getting £700 from?
A 2001 Mini is probably worth £1500 in the trade with 80K miles, maybe £1200 with 120K miles.
The dealer and / or the subsequent trader need to "suck it up". Neither did their due diligence and there was no intention to deceive.0 -

So how much is a clocked Mini worth?
Is there a way to legally "correct" the clock so that it is back to being worth the book price or will it always be considered a liability as it'll have to come with the caveat that its been clocked?
IF the dealer has a recourse against the OP then it certainly would only be for the delta of what the car was worth as a 80k genuine mileage and a 120k clocked vehicle.0 -

They told my mum they would have only allowed £1300 trade-in value if they knew the mileage was 120,000.0 -
I can't believe it's still possible to clock cars lol...0

The thing I'm finding difficult to believe is that you got a MoT done on the car after you bought it yet the test station did not point out to you that the current mileage was less than had been recorded at some point in the past. Either you've used a dodgy tester or you did in fact know and you've tried it on with the dealer at trade in time.0

MOT certificates now show the mileage of the vehicle at the last 5 tests. Since you MOT'd it when you bought it and again before you traded it in it would be fairly obvious if you'd clocked it.
If it has been clocked at some point before your ownership then they can hardly hold you responsible for it.0 -
I think the dates of the previous MOTs and when I brought the Mini prove I (we) didn't 'clock' the car0

You would just describe it as having a mileage discrepancy and it is believe to be around 120K miles.
No big issue really.0 -

I would be forwarding them on all copies of supporting paperwork, and suggesting had they done the due diligence previously that they have done now, then noone would be in this position.0
