Kids should be kids not dressed up like mini tarts, I say this as a mum of three girls who are happiest running about with their pals, biking, scootering, playing games and digging in the mud x

Just watched this. My GOD, the mothers were AWFUL! And that little girl 'Scarlett' telling her mother to shut up, and calling her a b1tch!

And the mother said nothing except 'go in your room and think about what you said.' Imagine what disgusting and rancid creatures some of these little girls are going to be in ten years time!

The big hoop earrings, the fake tan on a child who still had a dummy, the 'sexy' poses from 5 year olds, and the provocative outfits and dancing!!!!

Words literally failed me! I have never seen anything like it.

And as some have said on here, where on earth was all the money coming from, as most of them seemed to be in benefits.
    You didn't, did you? :rotfl::rotfl:

I agree that it's possible but it's become hugely more difficult over the years.

It's still possible if you shop at the likes of Next, Monsoon, Boden and Debenhams designer but you need to be determined and very selective to not dress young girls like tarts in some of the shops you've listed especially once they get about 10+.

I have noticed lots more pretty frocks appearing for younger girls especially for summer and special occasions but you'll still see high heeled boots and sequinned boob tubes come Christmas!

My DD is 11 and I have no problems getting appropriate clothes for her from any of the stores I mentioned - I have never bought in Monsoon or Debenhams and I bought her two pairs of board shorts from Boden afew months ago when I have never bought from them before (and they cost a bomb, even with a 20% code and free postage!!). I've never had an issue with clothes from Primark or any of the more budget type shops. There's stuff you would and wouldn't buy in all shops. In fact she's had two dresses from Primark for this summer and they're both quite high neck and ankle length!

None of her friends or the children she's in school with dress like tarts either. The style that most of them seem to go for is a more "sporty" look. They're into stuff like Superdry, Jack Wills, Hollister, etc.... DD had afew tops/hoodies from those shops for her birthday in April, along with a pair of Puma suedes, and that seems to be the way most of her friends go - the more expensive stuff for their birthdays/Christmas teamed with the cheaper stuff, jeans, shorts, leggings, etc...

I'm in my <cough> forties <cough> and I look at clothes in terms of what would be suitable for my age, I don't want to be Whitney dressed as Britney, so for all ages there's consideration to be taken as to what is "age appropriate".
While I agree merely because I am in no position to do otherwise, about the possible incongruity of association made I do think it risks making children aware or unsafe in different ways as they get older.

I think one of the reasons my friends and I were safe as teens was that we dressed hopelessly from charity shops, looking not in the least sexy, however hard we tried. Kids now have the look easily available before they might be emotionally ready to cope with the attention that comes with it. Not tiny I tots, but there is a genuine difficulty later in youth and young adulthood working out age now women can look younger and kids can look more grown up. If they have the awareness and ' talk' and 'moves' to go with it do they necessarily have the emotional maturity too?

When I was in school there were always kids who looked older than they were, there were girls who prided themselves on getting into clubs aged 14/15/16, this is going back to the 1980's (:o) and there were plenty of dodgy fellas around, under age drinking, drug taking, etc... I was struck when we visited DD's new comp recently that the toilets don't smell of fags. My school toilets stank of fags!! And the bus home was full of kids smoking at the back. I never see schoolkids smoking these days!

There's no more child abuse now than there was then, and earlier, it's just that we're more clued up on it now and we hear about it all the time so it feels like it's more prevalent. Unfortunately our children suffer because we tend to clip their wings because of it whereas we had our freedom because we weren't so aware. Doesn't mean it happened any less.

Just watching it now, god they are all awful!

And the names, why do they call them all ridiculous names?

Felt really sorry for the little girl who wants to be a tomboy and her mum won't let her.

Like 'Princess' and 'Precious.' :rotfl: There were about 3 middle names each too.

    Hideous women. Poor children. :(

Do none of them own mirrors? The women sitting round eating pizza, horrific tans and bizarre eyebrows. Odd, odd, odd.

Bizarre names are a quite useful indicator of someone's background.

Awww, the wee girl who didn't want to do the pageant because she was scared. Her awful mother dragged her off in a rage, felt very sorry for the little girl.

Precious is actually a proper name.

Hmm. I'm not even necessarily talking about child abuse. I'm talking about normal approaches and flirtation with their age being nothing to do with it. ( which also has always happened, but I think it can be harder to tell how old some people are now, particularly women and girls)

More to the point, I'm also talking about dating with into their own age group, consensual peer group sexual activity and their expectations and aspirations of life. Its possible to look very 'sexy' and be very , very bright, academic, and clued in and emotionally matured, Its also possible to be not in that lucky position. I wonder how many of these girls are being primed for the former situation in life?

'Nowadays' children get remote controls, computers and how to dress in a way that's seen as 'desirable' in their stride, along with a plethora of other things. That's fine, its wonderful even, of they aren't left to the Internet bullying and that what we look like isn't all we are. The maturity of choice isn't there with the knowledge, its not balanced.
