How to get rid of spiders - and not harm the resident cats?

Options
My daughter has an issue with big spiders visiting her flat - yukkkkk

We were looking at :

http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0027GZPFK/ref=wl_it_dp_v_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=FBWIZIJG67NI&coliid=I2HW2YL1SEF0E6

They claim it is safe with cats around BUT I have looked at comments and people say their cats were suffering while the device was on so this is a no no.

How can we make sure the horrid creatures do not wander about the flat and keep the cats safe at the same time?

Any idea?

Catching them as they come is not an option when one is asleep and such a spider lands and starts crawling around.. yukkk

Help anyone please?

You would be better off dealing with your daughters arachnophobia. What harm can a few spiders do? They are harmless creatures and keep the fly population down.
Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.

I myself would not like anything walking over me while I sleep. I I know plenty of people that do not want to see spiders where they live. Nothing to do with suffering from arachnophobia. I do not like wasps indoors either. Or rats...

Cats catch flies and keep those down so she does not spiders for THAT thanks a lot.

Of course its arachnophobia. Its irrational to fear something the size of your finger nail that can do no harm to you.

Explain this to my friend who ended up in a hospital in intensive care last year and was off work for weeks (yes, in UK, not some tropical place) - due to a "small spider bite".

Tell you what - YOU keep whatever you want indoors. Wish you all the best.

I am asking for advice how to get rid of spiders. Not how to get used to them.

I wonder whether any of the household flea sprays would also kill spiders? Win win with that one. I wonder if Skoosh would work??? Or....there must be some essential oils which deter them naturally, adding a few drops to water in a spray bottle and spraying the area.
Otherwise there are various products such as this one

You have to be very careful with spider/insecticide sprays as they can poison other pets.

They have to be allowed to dry out before dogs, cats etc are allowed in a room, so will probably only act on eggs and crawlies actually present (?) and not later visitors .Special care has to be taken with fish as the product will contaminate their water.

    I've been Money Tipped!
I use acclaim flea spray, which I'm fairly sure says it kills all crawling insects. Indeed after I used it I did find a few spiders appearing (dead) behind radiators etc...
It's fairly in expensive from amazon.

I hang horse chestnuts in the edges of my windows collected in the autumn and use a home made 'spider spray' like this one everywhere the cats can't get to.

My arachnophobia use to be terrible but it has gotten better but I still feel sick when I see the big ones :o
