I wonder how Ronald is going to react to this

There are quite a few comments advising ignore, and | fear that many will do so, but a DM headline such as this has to be bad news for the parking industry.

This has to be one of the better newspaper reports Ono parking charge notices I have seen, however still uses word penalty in places.
It's a shame it doesn't include a link to a this forum for help with appeals though.
I wonder if they are fully conversant with the survey that happens in McDs. Anyone who has been stung by this should be emailing the Daily. Fail straight away!Newbie thread: go to the top of this page and find these words: Main site > MoneySavingExpert.com Forums > Household & Travel > Motoring > Parking Tickets, Fines & Parking. Click on words Parking Tickets, Fines & Parking. Newbie thread is the first post. Blue New Thread button is just above it to left.0 -
Nothing wrong with calling it a penalty, it is a penalty. They have been careful not to call it a "fine" though by the use of quotation marks.
Good article by the Fail's usually dismal standards, and bad news for McD's.Je suis Charlie.0 -
AA president Edmund King said that ‘cowboy tactics, scaremongering and bullying’ were being used by many private parking companies.
‘Often motorists know that they are in the right but when they get a letter that looks like an official fixed penalty notice, followed by a letter that looks like an official bailiff’s letter, they pay up because they are scared.’
He said that the British Parking Association is paid for by the car parking industry, a situation akin to ‘inmates guarding the jail’

If you look at the ticket in the photo on the Mail web article, it is actually showing the word "Penalty !".
Good, for that is what it is and penalties from PPCs are unlawful - except in Cambridge.0 -
It's a pity the Mail didn't go after the nastier end of the industry populated by companies such as Parking Eye , CEL and UKCPS. Compared to them MET are fairly harmless. For comedy value they could also include ANPR Ltd in their cartoon section. What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?0

No Dee, we should all be emailing the DM, especially about the on going scandal of CEL targeting Co-op parkers. Their actions are not only a cynical exploitation of the Law of Contract, but Co-op's lack of action is a disgrace an does no service to their customers.

They could have a field day with Trevor Whitehouses lot, ANPR limited, are they still claiming they can catch terrorists with an anpr camera and a mathematical algorithm? From the Plain Language Commission:
"The BPA has surely become one of the most socially dangerous organisations in the UK"0 -
Well, after reading down the comments and being thoroughly dismayed by the utter ignorance of some of the people offering 'advice' on there, I can well imagine the PPCs rubbing their hands with glee at all those suckers ignoring their way to a default court judgement. I tried pointing people in the right direction, but once you've posted 10 times in a 24 hour period, that's your lot - to stop spammers presumably.
Oh well, onwards and upwards I suppose. Here's hoping more people end up coming here than the Daily Mail comments boards for their parking notice advice.0 -
I do not think that all that many people actually read the comments, so many are repetitive, and there can be so many of them, (nearly a thousand so far), it is often difficult to find where you left off.
The Main thing is that the DM wrote about it, and DM online is probably one of the largest on-line newspapers in the world. OK, there will be a lot more ignorers, but there will also be a lot more people up for a fight. You never know how far you can go until you go too far.0 -
A lot more ignorers is good too. If everyone ignored then the racket would be dead in days.Je suis Charlie.0
