go to a local supplier it dosent have to be the big name shop and try a few out .All the shops will let to try them .I would avoid a divan bed .The base are generally hard .I bought mine from a retailer that advertised on facebook ,I just didnt buy the cheap one.

I think some of us tend to go for the cheaper options as the prices of new mattresses and beds are scary.
  • I never in my life thought I would be spending anywhere near £1k on a bed and mattress.

So confusing with foam and latex, gel, number of coils etc etc

I've tried a good few but just still have no clue.

just try a few out until you find the right one for you .You dont need to spend £1000 but if its the right bed buy it .

Can you really go wrong with a cheap new one on Gumtree or other places that you can check properly before purchase? One below as an example:

To be honest I don't think you can go too wrong with such a mattress, unless of course you have special needs that this mattress may not cater for. If this mattress is in fact new, at £95 it's a bargain.

I just found it following a quick Gumtree search as it was relevant to this thread. I would assume it won't last long at that price, probably even gone by now.

judging by the photo I would say he is a retailer and had lots of mattresses

  • with regards to the mattresses listed above the King Koil Regatta model has 1000 pocket sprung with a layer of memory foam, the Sensations model has 1400 pocket sprung with no memory foam. Both are non turn and are lovely mattresses. Sensations would be seen as a more luxurious model, however the Regatta would be slightly softer.
Keep in mind that electric blankets cannot be used with memory foam.

I've been selling mattresses for the past 13 years and am fairly young (late 20s) have no specific needs / injuries that require a specialised bed and honestly wouldn't even entertain the thought of buying a cheap "basic" mattress for my own bed. Having seen the difference a decent bit of support makes to my customers it really is unreal how much a bed or mattress can affect you.

With regards to the divan base, they are now mainly platform top bases (King Koil no longer do sprung edge base for some reason) so they are slightly firmer, but having gone from a sprung edge to platform top I feel very little difference.

Also one last note, be careful over "orthopedic" mattresses, my mum was sold one years ago and when I started my new job i quickly realised that it was the most basic of basic mattresses and was pure dirt. Orthopedic is a term used by alot of retailers to describe a firm mattress, very rarely does it mean anything more.

It's almost as if i'm back in work already, it's well saying mattresses are my passion lol.
