A divan bed has a box type base with or without drawers and then the mattress sits on the top. Headboards are added after.

An Orthopadic mattress is just a firm mattress, it's not a special mattress at all, it just sounds medical, it sounds like it's good for you. But it just means firm. The downside is there is no industry standard on firmness.

  • Anyone any experience of these mattresses? Hard to find reviews online as they change the model names based on retailers:

    King Koil Regatta (£400)
King Koil Sensation Pocket Pillow Top (£600)
    Salus Viscool 1500 (£600)
    Sealy Harbour View

Just want some opinions as its a lot of money!

Can you really go wrong with a cheap new one on Gumtree or other places that you can check properly before purchase? One below as an example:

I am not sure exactly what "model" mine is but it is definitely a King Koil Pocket sprung pillow top - and I absolutely love it.

TBH I would ignore all reviews anyway as different people have different likes for mattresses.

The only way to decide is to try them all in the shop - and bring a pillow to get a proper feel for it.

Depends - is it for yourself or for a spare bed?

I wouldn't want a cheap mattress for everyday - but for a spare room it's fine.

Not after one but it's brand new and not too expensive so can it really be that bad?

Personally I wouldn't buy one, but I do have a sore back anyway, so a good bed is a good investment for me.

I definitely wouldn't buy it if there is no way of trying it out, do they have a base for you to try it on when you get there before you buy it?

I seen one advertised on facebook ,brand new orthopedic ect .To be honest it wasnt the best quality and I bought another one at around £300 .
I think the gumtree and facebook at £99 is just to get you interested.
Mine is for the spare room which will be swapped for mine when mine wears out so I wanted a good one.

Fair point, I don't know a great deal about mattresses to be honest.

go to a local supplier it dosent have to be the big name shop and try a few out .All the shops will let to try them .I would avoid a divan bed .The base are generally hard .I bought mine from a retailer that advertised on facebook ,I just didnt buy the cheap one.
