Hi Guys, I`m looking to buy a new mattress quite soon. Have tried all the usual suspects i.e. dreams, bensons, harveys etc.. and feel they are all quiet "samey" and all give the usual chatter. I have heard that Kaymed, King Koil, Healthbeds all make very nice mattresses. I cant find them locally, anyone ever came across them locally? Thanks..

Hi FUNKYDADDIO not sure if you have got sorted in your mattress search but I know Sound Asleep in Ards sell Kaymed, King Koil and Healthbeds as well as Vi-spring mentioned by AllFumbs :T

I personally recommend King Koil (who btw are also known as Kaymed), i've been selling them for 12 years now. I has a 1600 visco pocket sprung mattress (memory foam) for years and recently decided I wanted a change so went for the iKool 2000 pocket (gel).

You really need to lie on the mattresses and try them. I know in our showroom we have pillows already on the bed and actively encourage you to have a lie down.

I second this I recently bought a King Koil mattress and for the first time in about 3 years, my sore neck and sore back are barely even noticeable!!

Mine is a 2000 pocket sprung bed and is super comfy

For those that have King Koils, what sort of money would I be looking at for a pocket sprung king size? KK obviously don't seem to like having their prices shown on their distributor's websites so I can't even find a general ballpark figure. Father in law has also recommended them to me, apparently they are used in several hotels here

King Koil don't want to sell mattresses online. They won't supply anyone that does.

How do you how comfy or firm/soft it is online? Simple, you can't, I understand that 2 mins lie down in store is the not the same as 8 hours at night, but it still gives you a much better understanding of the mattress.

Also King Koil are being kind to the retailers that take the time and costs to display the product. Without the risk of some dodgy back room internet company undercutting them.

But budget for £450 upwards for a King Size matt.

Thank you pinkypants - just to add that I don't intend to buy online, I work close to direct furniture's west Belfast shop, so intended on paying them a visit - I've previously bought a dining table and chairs there which I'm very happy with. But I didn't want to go into the shop, only to find that it would be way out of my price range. I need a new bed for the guest bedroom as my mother in law will be staying for a fortnight at Christmas, but I'd probably swap our mattress with the guest bedroom if the King Koil is the biz, as ours isn't great.

So refreshing to see that someone actually wants to support a shop. Whilst not money saving as such, you will generally find much better service and advice.

We have a entry level King Koil and a mid range Kaymed on display and I can truly say that they are wonderful products. Very well made and with a good warranty.

Not going to recommend any supplier in particular but what I do want to recommend is memory foam. For years I was suffering pains lying in bed. I was getting backache and going to bed was no longer a pleasure. I tried a couple of new beds in quick succession, forking out big money trying to get a bit of comfort, but to no avail. So then I decided to try a memory foam bed and mattress about 5 years ago. Absolutely love it and my pains when lying have gone. I bought the bed from Dreams and it wasnt the most expensive. I didnt wantto shell out another fortune on a bed as I had already overspent previously. The bed was a divan and the base had small layer or springs on top, just about 2 inches. Then the memory foam mattress went on top. cost about £600 at the time but I think prices have come down. This isnt really a "Dreams" recommendation, just the mattress. Cant envisage ever using anything else. If I go away to a hotel the old pains come back
I started out with nothing......And still have most of it left:p

I tried a memory foam mattress and can't sleep on them - I find they are very warm and I like to be cool at night.

I recommend Hardys Furniture in Kilkeel

Their service was brilliant when I went bed shopping - didn't rush me at all, encouraged me to try all the different beds etc.

And I absolutely love my new bed!
