Another happy Green Flag customer here. Good value if your car is fairly new (less than ten years old) and if you want to insure the car (regardless of who's driving). Not sure they're as competitive for driver cover (i.e. cover you for any car you might be in).

Don't waste your money on Autoaid!

Without giving any facts to support this it's just an unsubstantiated assertion.

Autoaid is always highly recommended on this web site and I don't recall ever seeing anything but praise for them on this forum.

Please explain how £39 to cover driver and spouse/partner for any car they happen to be driving. For homestart, roadside breakdown and relay to anywhere requested and if that's not possible then fares home and one night in a hotel for up to 5 passengers. How is that money wasted. Please explain.

That is money wasted because Startrescue offer a similar policy for £35 and if you use a 15% discount code here it brings the cost down to £30. Now sir, sorry if i'm being a bit thick but £30 is significantly less than £39 and you're not being forced to pay up front for any recovery costs with startrescue. I couldn't give a monkey's how pleasant Autoaid are over the phone...if my vehicle breaks down i expect the insurer to send someone over promptly and this is something which startrescue have done on the few occasions i've used them.

Maybe I'm being a bit thick but when I look at the website quote page it gives £83.40 for that level of cover (3* cover for two named drivers, any car).
loose does not rhyme with choose but lose does and is the word you meant to write.

But how many of us want cover forany car? Ok fair enough if you've got 20 cars in your household then Autoaid works out a bargain but many people just want to insure their own car and for that startrescue is dirt cheap. Their basic covers starts at £15 (incl 15% discount) which Autoaid don't even offer....Autoaid seem to have a one-size-fits-all policy which might be value for money for those with many cars but for those with just 1 car and looking for basic cover is just daylight robbery.

You are not comparing like with like. The policy you quote does not offer the same benefits and wife/partner costs double.

Last time I had to call out Autoaid was when my son asked me to collect him because he had been drinking and didn't want to drive. His car then broke down, as I was driving (remember any car) him to his home. Saturday evening 11pm. Response time was less than an hour. Paid by credit card, posted off the claim Sunday morning, received cheque 8 days later. Money therefore in bank by the time the credit card statement arrived.

If you are happy with another company that is fine but I still do not see how the £39 (remember that is for 2 people, self and wife ) can be called money wasted.

It would appear that this StartRescue thing is good value for one person with one car. Autoaid is definitely the best for a husband + wife with a car each. Plus, as ScotsBob pointed out, the "any car" thing is useful on occasion if you're driving someone else's car.

There are plenty of households where there are two cars and two drivers - it's at that stage that AutoAid is cheaper, not when you have 20 cars.

  • What are the callout limits with AutoAid and Startrescue.co.uk?

No limits on Autoaid, except that "At Home" is limited to £65.
