Orange/EE what a con

I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 on a 18 month contract with EE which is £39 a month. The contract ends in March 2015. I would like to upgrade from 3g to 4g as my internet is rubbish. The only thing they say they can do is offer it to me free if I start a new 24 month contract at £39 a month using the same phone. This is going to cost me over £600 on top of my original contract to upgrade.

O2 are upgrading their customers for free.

Are EE trying to con me?

This depends on what you are getting for £39.

The most expensive sim-only 4GEE tariffs I see are 1x£26 or 12x£25 that give you 4GB+Unltd+Unltd.

So, it does look like a rip-off to me.

Also, why are you so sure that your internet stops being 'rubbish' after you get 4g?

Do you even have 4G in your area. And have you tested it to see if it works as advertised.

As grumbler said, upgrading to 4G doesn't mean you'll automatically get great internet speeds.

You're in an agreement on the Orange network which you decided was ok less than a year ago (when EE was also available). Technically, you're wanting to get out of your Orange contract and move to an EE one. For billing and accounts purposes EE are a completely separate network. So it is a bit like asking Orange to let you go to Vodafone or something.

I agree it may seem unfair seeing they're all owned by EE but as I say, you are currently an Orange customer.

Do you have the 4G version of the Note 3? Probably should check that before doing anything else.

I can't see your internet being any faster as the guys have already said you will be wasting your money upgrading.

    Only 1g

My wife has 4g on EE and she gets really good speed.

It is not me who wanted to get out of a contract. They contacted me and offered the deal with a £20 discount.

EE contacted you? are you sure it actually was EE and not a third party seller trying to trick you into signing up for a new contract?

I've had calls 'from Orange' and it's some unrelated 3rd party trying to trick me into upgrades and such like.
