And
I agree. Three grand for a holiday?! I can't remember ever paying even a third of that for a holiday. Like you say "how the other half live!"

Some people work harder than others.
Usually those at the bottom of the pyramid..
Anyway, this is all going way off topic. I hope the OP manages to recoup at least some of the money back for the dress. £1000 is a lot, but I've honestly no idea what wedding dresses normally cost! The report button is for abusive posts, not because you don't like someone, or their opinions0 -

If you mean physically then you're probably correct, as well as being extremely short-sighted.Hope over Fear. #VoteYes0 -

I don't consider myself 'the other half' at all. I grew up on a dodgy council estate being brought up by my single parent mum knowing I wanted better for myself. I spent a total of 6 years studying to become a qualified and now I earn enough to have holidays in excess of that.... I earnt them. Some people choose to have mortgages that almost cripple them because they want to live in certain areas, why don't they get tarred with that brush when they could probably live 5 miles down the road for a lot less?
If you don't want a 3 grand holiday then that's fine but no need to sneer at anyone who can, and does.
Sorry, OP I hope you are able to recoup some money back from your son and that the future brings you all some happiness, it must be a difficult time.

Sadly, wages do not necessarily reflect the amount of work put in....
Someone can work just as hard for an hourly rate of £10 as someone else does for £1000.
Just because someone has money (or not) that is no real reflection of their efforts n life.:hello:0 -

The legal position for engagement rings at least is governed by section 3(2) of the Law Reform (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1970, which states:
The gift of an engagement ring shall be presumed to be an absolute gift; this presumption may be rebutted by proving that the ring was given on the condition, express or implied, that it should be returned if the marriage did not take place for any reason.
well that's that question answered then! :Tskintchick wrote: »To go away as a family costs a fair bit of money. I think we spend about 2k on our family holiday for me OH and DD. We go self-catering but in a nice villa or apartment, and go out for day trips etc which all adds up, plus the cost of food, taxi to airport, hotel at airport if it's not Heathrow (which is on our doorstep), car hire while away, drinks etc.
Yes it can be done more cheaply, but we want to have a holiday that we enjoy, rather than endure, and as we can afford it (just!) then that's what we do.
Same with weddings - it's possible to do them cheaply, but we spent thousands on ours (or rather my parents did but they chose to) and I think our honeymoon cost 6k on its own, and I had a very expensive dress that was 3k. But then, the budget was there. If it hadn;t been, we wouldn;t have spent that much, and I did a lot of other elements on the cheap, like we made our own invitations, menu cards, orders of service, etc on our printer at home, and the favours were little heart-shaped lollies and a bell that doubled as a place card.
The problem on MSe sometimes is that people get a bit "all i had was a dead rat on a piece of strong" about things and expect everyone on here to be the same, whereas we all have different budgets and salaries and expectations.
Anyway, back on topic - where is the OP?

Maybe spending £6000 on a holiday and £3000 on a dress has made her a skint chick :rotfl:
OP, how long ago did you buy the dress? Sometimes a retailer will let you return an item as long as it is unworn, though that might depend on if it's an off-the-shelf dress or if it was altered or made specially to fit the bride. This is a system account and does not represent a real person.
