In Yorkshire it was called UFO: Enemy Unknown. ;)

If you liked that, I slightly preferred the oft-overlooked Jagged Alliance. The Gold version is often discounted during Steam sales to about two quid.

Another alternative is Silent Storm, which is WW2-era and came highly recommended when I got it. I'll play it. One day...
Q: What kind of discussions aren't allowed?
A: It goes without saying that this site's about MoneySaving.

Q: Why are some Board Guides sometimes unpleasant?
A: We very much hope this isn't the case. But if it is, please make sure you report this, as you would any other forum user's posts, to forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com.

Yeah I had it on the PSX, spent endless hours in Pakistan playing on. I'm going to check those games out that you have recommended.

Jagged Alliance 2! I meant Jagged Alliance 2!!! Sorry!

Jagged Alliance isn't bad, but it hasn't aged as well as JA2.

    Sorry!

I couldn't possibly give one all time best, but my top three are Borderlands 2, Fallout 3 & Skyrim. All three of those games have given me that sense of freedom and choice that I just love. Going back to my childhood I would have to name Doom, Quake & Unreal Tournament 99.
Lurker for many years, now finally decided to join & sort myself out.

Impossible to say, but the games I've spent most time on in no particular order:

    Red Alert 1/2
    Sensible World of Soccer
    Elite/Frontier: Elite II
    Civilisation series
    Sim City
    Eve Online

    Phoenix Wright
    Siberia
    Pikmin
    Legend of Zelda: Windwaker
    Donkey Kong: Jungle Beat

The last one is a platformer which you control using bongos. I remember being in physical pain from slapping the bongos but I carried on to the end despite bleeding palms.

The Elder Scrolls games (haven't yet played Arena or Daggerfall however), though I liked Morrowind the best for its limitless open world.

    Myst series

    Earlier Gothic games

    Light Crusader (mega Drive)
    Alundra (PS1)
    Albion

I've just downloaded DOSBox and Arena and Daggerfall from Bethesda - good reason to ignore the housework!
