LOL
I normally just hang around on the DFW forum but occasionally stray to see what else is going on and to see if anyone is getting flamed for posting something juicy in the wrong forum when in fact they should have gone to DFW.
I think this thread is funny, I'm saying this as one of those idiots who for various reasons I'll not go into racked up debts, including on CC's
I've had my LBM (light bulb moment for those not in the know
), am repaying what I owe and am a good boy now.
So someone gets stung by a charge they didn't know about, lesson learned (and quite cheaply too, £3 Vs raging kids promised ice cream and now not getting is no contest imo) and then someone jumps in to tick the Op off for adding to their debt and gives a lecture about morals etc, only to be told a dozen or so times the same thing about the virtue of using CC's properly
I can imagine the Op (secretly swamped in debt, who knows? not my business
) smiling to his/herself about all the replies to Pweggie and Pweggie thinking "Doh!"
Love it, proof that forums can be entertaining
carry on...

...Any credit card provider will charge a similar fee for withdrawing cash, not just the 'bad credit' ones.
agreed. just consider it to be a lesson learnt. i have carried at least one credit card around for about 15 years. and have never withdrawn any cash at all from any of them. the £1 i paid to withdraw £80 from a debit card the other week was plenty for me;) and CapitalOne are no exclusively a 'credit building' card provider...they are very similar to the others. this is just how credit cards work.0 -
certainly the Lidl closest to where i live does not accept credit cards, and nor does Aldi0

as per the response by Lidl themselves on their own facebook page given 38 minutes ago to someone who asked why they won't accept credit cards....I have been to many Lidl in London non of them accept CC. Which Lidl branch are you talking about, it is handy to know ....

We're sorry about this. We only accept credit cards in selected stores. We do apologise for any upset caused.
the ones I use are in Surrey and that CC are accepted probably relates to the fact they would not get any customers if they didn't, we'd go to Waitrose instead

I quite like the 4% back in supermarkets that my credit card gives me... then I pay it back IN FULL!!! when I get home.I don't know how anyone can put food shopping on a credit card - that's no way to live.
Remember the OP had already said "Yes" to his kids BEFORE noticing there would be a payment problem. I'd say that he did the honorable thing by taking the hit (even if unknown at the time) in order to avoid reneging on a promise. The lesson of keeping your word is a valuable one too, y'know. It seems even more ridiculous that you would be willing to go to such lengths to rack up more credit card debt just so your kids can have ice cream?!?!? !!!!!!?? Have you never said a simple 'no' to your children0 -
Wow, poor pweggie. Bet they didn't know what they were letting themselves in for. A very different interpretation that may be based on experiences, so let's not judge them for linking credit card to debt. Their point would benefit from a helpful explanation to the contrary, yes, but let's hope we haven't discouraged them from returning to the forum!
In addition to all the perks listed above, I also choose to pay with a credit card in a supermarket because it stops the pesky assistants asking me if I want cashback.0 -
I don't know how anyone can put food shopping on a credit card - that's no way to live. I appreciate some people are struggling, but credit cards are not the way out of financial mess, they just make more mess - and particularly ones like Capital One!!
I used my Capital One card for the monthly shop because of the cashback. I also pay in full every month. So this sort of card is good for that perk.0
