When I lived in Ceredigion they didn't accept credit cards and my nearest one in the Leeds area doesn't accept them.0 -
Once upon a time we had a 68 page thread about Aldi, Lidl and Credit Cards north and south of the border.Ebe_Scrooge wrote: »I was going to ask about this - I've been using credits cards in Lidl for years. Another question is why you normally use cash instead of a DC.
Because for small transactions, many shops won't accept card for less than a fiver.
I always keep about £20 on me in cash for small transactions, but anything over about £10 I'll stick on either the DC or CC, depending on what I have with me.

I used the words "instead of", not "as well as".0

I don't know how anyone can put food shopping on a credit card - that's no way to live. I appreciate some people are struggling, but credit cards are not the way out of financial mess, they just make more mess - and particularly ones like Capital One!!
It seems even more ridiculous that you would be willing to go to such lengths to rack up more credit card debt just so your kids can have ice cream?!?!? !!!!!!?? Have you never said a simple 'no' to your children, or is teaching your children a valuable lesson about money, and the virtue of avoiding instant gratification, just too much like hard work??
I really do wonder why some people are in the financial mess they are in....

This is a problem of your own making... why come on here just to advertise the fact that you used a card without knowing the implications.
When you put the CREDIT card into the ATM you would have been asking for credit... in cash... did you really think that the company would give you a cash advance for free?
Your fault... move on.:hello:0 -

Are you for real?
I spend upwards of £1,000 a month on credit cards and yet rack up no credit card debt. In fact I get paid for doing so, as do many others.
In fact, when AMEX pay me my cashback at the end of August I'll bear in mind just how much using the card for a year has led me to the doors of hell.0 -

I could put our supermarket shop on my debit card, but I don't because using my credit card provides me with cash back on supermarket purchases. Paying for 99% of my shopping instead of 100% makes much more financial sense and saves me around £25 per year. It saves me almost £100 year on petrol, exactly how is that a financial mess?0 -
Who am I to argue if the CC companies wish to give me between a 1% and 4% bonus for using their money and that cash is earning 3% pa whilst sitting for up to 56 days in my bank account. Long may my "financial mess" continue. It is those bleating on that credit cards are bad are the ones that are failing to teach their children a valuable lesson.I don't know how anyone can put food shopping on a credit card - that's no way to live. Obviously you must use a credit card in a different way from the enlightened posters on here.
I put all spending on various credit cards and pay them all in full at the end of the month. I am making a tidy sum in cashback for doing so, 4% in the case of Lidl and other supermarkets.0
