E-on Energy Bills - HELP!

Right, I now have an e-on online account.

It says I currently receive my bills every quarter and I am paying by fixed direct debit.

I am on the E.on energy fixed 1 year v6 tariff, electricity.

When I clock in the Direct Debit Manager it says £108. Is that per month as it says bill per quarter?

Then, when I go onto the energy overview tab where it predicts what i'll spend it says my total energy Sept 14 - August 15 is £300 and they suggest I pay £25 per month. Anyone shed any light?
  • How on earth can it predict 09/14-08/15 if the property is a new build with absolutely no consumption info? Ignore.

Just pay them the £108 a month. Receive bill after 3 months. Evaluate. You'll probably be in credit as it's so warm. Repeat. If you're still massively in credit, reduce DD.

It's really not all that complex, you paid DD in your previous property so you must understand how it all works?

The thing I am confused about that in my previous home with British Gas (Gas and Electricity) my direct debit was £70 a month and now it is £108 with E-on for the same size house. This is an eco house which generates its own electricity so £108 seems huge.

You are completely ignoring the fact that electricity (on a single rate tariff) is 300% more expensive per kWh than gas. All your hot water and heating usage will be paid at that rate: £1200pa for a 3 b/r all-electric property without E7 is low.
Solar PV panels won't help reduce your heating bills at all, as in winter the heating will only be needed in the evenings and early mornings, when the panels will output precisely zero. All they will do is run some of your devices (i.e fridge/freezer) in the daytime, and possibly top up your hot water temp if the system is set up that way.
You won't know how effective the 'eco' insulation is until the onset of winter, so usage over the next 3 months is no guide at all. You really need to build up some credit on your account to pay for the expensive winter months. Aim to be perhaps £200 in credit when the heating goes on in October.
If you want more advice, then you need to give more info about the supposed eco features of the property, and how it is heated and hot watered. And what metering system you have?

I understand how direct debit works, no need to be so patronizing Bluebirdman.

Macman, Features are 40cm walls, underfloor heating. Upstairs is heated the same as central heating but all heating is powered by an air source heat pump. We have a unit which tells us what the solar panels make us and it is about £2.80 -£300 a day.

it has a 150 litre hot water tank which is heated from the solar panels. The smart meter we have has said since we moved in we'd spent £14 in just under a month.

I've spent a similar amount this month, and my house is extremely inefficient. It's summer, you won't spend much. As advised, you need some time in the property before you can properly evaluate these things.

I'm not entirely sure you do understand, as you keep saying things like "the bill will be reduced/lower/adjusted". The bill is the bill, it never changes. The amount of debit/credit you're in will vary. Perhaps I'm wrong, English isn't my first language, in which case I apologise.

However, you clearly seem to be concerned about this, if this is the case instruct e.on that you want your DD to be £50/60/whatever you want. It's your money after all. All they've done is make a sensible suggestion that you spend £100 a month (which is the UK average after all) until you've had a chance to look at things.

If it is anything like the "eco houses" round here you may be shocked at the costs in winter (the HA are paying the tenants a subsidy against the high bills) due to the poorly spec'd ashp systems which use on-peak electricity to boost the output so don't count your chickens until at least after the first winter.

The DD is based on a "best guess" with no history. When you look at the DD manager it shows what they think the DD should be. As you go on that figure will move according to your use and you can select to change to that new figure. With no winter bills to use that figure will unlikely change for a while as conventionally you will use 80% of your heating costs over the short winter period and as yet they have no factual information to deviate from that.

Thank you for the extra information.

I think we need to keep this simple for the time being and leave things as they are until at least you've had a bill.

We don't have any usage for you yet, so the account will be using estimated figures.

You pay a Direct Debit monthly and we produce your bills quarterly. Therefore, you should build a credit with your monthly payments, this credit then goes towards the quarterly bill.

You do also need to build up some credit at this time of year as your winter bills will be higher, the credit you build over summer will help in the colder months.

I suggest leaving things as they are, keep entering your meter reads to build some usage history and adjust things as needs be.

Bills will not be changed or reduced, unless it's estimated, it's the payment amount that can change.

Hope this is clear and thank you all for your input on this.

So basically are you saying that it will be £108 per month all this year? How can I reduce it from £108? Is this what I do by entering the meter readings?

Basically after 3 months how do I get a new estimation?
