E-on Energy Bills - HELP!
Hi Everyone,
We just moved into a new build house. 3 Bed. E-On have estimated we will spend £1200 a year on just electricity as the house has no gas. Thats £108 a month!! They say they re evaluate after 3 months. Do you normally just send them a meter reading after 3 months?
There are 2 of us in the house but the house is unoccupied 9-5!

People with GCH on average pay around the £1100 mark. Most houses are unoccupied 9-5. Electricity is more expensive than gas. £1200 is reasonable, particularly if you're not on their cheapest tariff.
You can send them meter readings as often as you like, it'll certainly help you keep an eye on how much you're using. They will bill you every 3 months.0 -
May be a little high - water heating, cooking, showers will all be electric.
You say no gas - is the heating electric as well?Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
Yeah heatings electric but its an eco house with 40cm thick walls and insulation so we wont even really use it. They said its an estimate and that after 3 months they re evaluate it.0

House has solar panels too and will be putting back into the grid.0

Hi tbarson1
Good advice from the guys already thanks:D
It sounds about right for an all electric property, but as you say it's an eco house, we can always adjust the payments as needed.
Have you provided your meter reads from the day you moved in? This will ensure the bills are accurate from the start.
Then I'd suggest registering online, so you can pop your reads on whenever you like and produce an up to date balance or a real time bill. Lot's of other things you can do on here also
This will keep your account completely up to date and give you a really good idea of your usage.
You can re-evaluate your own payments by using the online tool called the Direct Debit manager, you can use this after your first bill.
Do remember though that electric heating can expensive and you need to be building a credit balance up now to go towards your larger winter bills and your usage will increase over the colder months.
I hope this helps a little, if you need me just ask.

Just seen your other posts about the heating
I must have been typing.
This is even more of a reason to keep entering the reads, if you won't use much then the usage won't differ too much over winter.
Use the online account to keep things accurate.

Hi Helena,
Its an eco house with 40cm walls so is very warm and we doubt we wil need the heating on much. Regarding meter readings, the building company sent e-on meter readings on the day of completion. If I log online to E-on can I input my meter reading and will the bills be ajusted accordingly?0 -
The thing I am confused about that in my previous home with British Gas (Gas and Electricity) my direct debit was £70 a month and now it is £108 with E-on for the same size house. This is an eco house which generates its own electricty so £108 seems huge.0

Thanks,
To be honest I'd advise you to make sure the reads that have been provided to us for the start date match the reads you took, just to make sure.
If you log in to your online account and enter up to date reads, it will either produce a bill automatically if the account is in the billing window, this is 2 weeks either side of the bill date.
Or you can just request an up to date balance. Or if the account isn't in the billing window you can produce a real time bill.
This will bring the account fully up to date.
You'll still receive your quarterly bills as normal.
I'd suggest putting monthly or weekly reads on to your online account, just to give you an idea of usage to start with.

So, E-on said it would be £108 as they estimated we would spend £1200 a year on electricity. If after 3 months it turns out we only spend say £60 a month will this be reflected in the bills after the 3 month period?0
