So, E-on said it would be £108 as they estimated we would spend £1200 a year on electricity. If after 3 months it turns out we only spend say £60 a month will this be reflected in the bills after the 3 month period?

Yes. The bill documents what you've used, and how much you owe. If they owe you money, it will also say this.

Tbh, e.on are reall just guessing it's £1200 a year, as are we all. They may not realise (the rep here excepted) that it's an eco house - I didn't until post #4

So basically after 3 months if weve used a lot less than what they have charged us fr we will be in credit and the bill will lower as that will reflect true usage?

Your usage will be reflected in the amount the pay. As you say we've made an estimation on what we think you'll use.

As we gather more information from the meter reads and your usage patterns, we can make the payments more accurate.

It's a case of keep updating your account and making sure the bills are charged to accurate reads, we can then (or you) can adjust the amount you pay.

OK, so if I register online I can enter reads myself and if it shows we are using far less than we are paying E-on will reduce the bill (or like you say we can do so ourselves?

Sorry for all the questions Helena.

OP Could you update us in 12 months - a very interesting building type. Should be way of things to come.
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

    That's ok, that's what I'm here for :D

Yes, leave the payments as they are for the time being.

Keep entering your meter reads on to your online account and make sure bills are accurate when produced.

Once you've registered online, have a look around the website to get an idea of things.

Then, if we can see you're not using as much as the estimation, you can use the Direct Debit manager tool to adjust your payments. It will give you the figures on there also.

Will E-on change it after 3 months or is it down to me to do it myself?

I'll enter the reads weekly I think as that will be most accurate.
  • The bill won't get "reduced", the bill is the bill.

    For example:

    Bill amount: £100

    Payments received: £300

    Balance: Cr: £200

The bill will always remain £100. They can, and will, adjust the payments to reflect your usage. Be aware that some companies like to have a full year's usage before they change it (I have no idea what e.on's policy is)

Thats ridiculous though. So if it turns out I am paying a lot less they'll credit me in the first instance which I understand.

However, Helena said that if I enter my reads weekly/monthly, after 3 months I can adjust my direct debit or they will to reflect true usage.

I meant the bill be reduced after 3 months, not imemdiatley. I know for the first 3 months if I use far less than the £108 then I will receive credit.
