The thing I keep coming back to is that while hotels come in all shapes and sizes and with all sorts of variable facilities, the one thing that seems constant to me as a standard attribute is daily housekeeping.

Without daily housekeeping, can a property be considered a hotel?

Trading Standards don't deal with individual consumer complaints.

I see, so they wouldn't be able to answer a question about what constitutes a hotel?

Have your plans changed and you are trying to get out of the booking ?

Great location nice looking rooms with extra space.......actually far nicer than many London hotels. Restaurant on site -so what is it that this doesn't offer that every other London hotel *does* offer exactly ?

I note the hotel has weekly housekeeping so if you have some kind of disability that means you can't straighten a duvet once a day they could probably make provision for you. How many nights are you booked for ?

That question was asked in post #5 and answered in post #7.

    Seriously ?
He can't make his own bed for three nights ?
Towels are always available on request at these types of places.

    He's trying it on !

I've sometimes got priceline stays that wouldn't be my first choice -one memorable one I messed up royally on area and ended up in a less than ideal location- when I was upgraded to a suite on check in unasked I decided it wasn't such a mistake after all. Just part of the risk that is book your own price...... there is an element of risk that it won't be exactly what you thought it would be. If people can't handle that then they should be booking a named hotel.

Lol - your reply did make me smile :)

No, our plans have not changed, and yes, I can straighten a bed, but on this occasion I don't want to, which is why I have booked a hotel.

How do you know this? They may not have a 24-hr reception.

Yes. I remember when I was a holiday rep many years ago many of the rooms would be cleaned twice a week.

Many years ago I stayed in a Hotel in which the rooms weren't cleaned on a Thursday and a Sunday.

You do seem to be going to a great deal of hassle over something quite trivial. How much more will a hotel with housekeeping cost?
