It has been delivered to the property the buyer requested. That's "received". To be "received" the parcel doesn't actually have to get to the person, just the delivery address. Otherwise posting stuff through letterboxes just wouldn't work as a delivery method.

Therefore the buyer has received the item, and then had it stolen from his/her property, and so the theft should be reported to the police.

I never said it had to get to the person, but it must get to the address, so of course posting through letter box works :rotfl:

As far as I know the only time the 2nd paragraph MAY be true is if the buyer has told the seller/courier where to leave an item if noone is at home. Thats why when online sites ask me for a "SafePlace" to leave stuff if not at home, I never answer, because I will not take responsability for some courier leaving it on a doorstep or whatever other stupid place they feel like.

I have provided links above which states in situations like this the buyer can argue that it has not been delivered. I will go by a source such as which :-)

I was also frustrated when I checked my tracking at work to see a parcel had been left in my porch. I don't have a porch!!!

It seems there wasn't an option for "shoved in hedge".

Or "shoved in the back of farm along the roads tractor" :rotfl:

So you agree with me then. The doorstep is part of the property which forms the address, meaning the package did get to the address and therefore is "received". :D

And the doorstep is part of the address, so you agree with me.

Unless of course you're trying to argue that the doorstep isn't actually part of the property, which is a pretty tough one to argue?

To try and suggest thats the actual issue, seems like being "willfully dense" and deliberatly not understanding the issues, so I will leave you to it, you can find someone else to argue with.

If anyone else is in this type of situation I suggest reading the info in the which links I gave in post 9 :D

EDIT - a final thought, OP, if the seller does not respond and you decide to do a INR case, there have been reports on the ebay forums that ebay have sometimes done "no fault" refunds when the tracking shows deliverd but the buyer does not have it.

I see this as a matter for the police. It is the same as if someone had stolen a garden gnome from your property or a flower pot siting in your porch as far as I can see.

I must admit, one time a delivery man left a parcel at the back of my house in a boiler house and I only found it by accident as I do not often go into the boiler house. I was uncomfortable with that. It was not just the security of the parcel, but the fact that someone was wandering around my back garden. Yes, they had business to be there in theory, but it was out of the public view and they could have lifted a few things and put it in their pocket, or used it as an opportunity to assess security for future reference.

I don't think this is the same at all. If I choose to leave a garden gnome or anything else in my garden, I know I am taking a risk that the gnome may be stolen, and that is my choice.

When I order items on the internet, I expect them to be delivered to my person or into my house via a letterbox. I do not expect those items to be left on my doorstep, driveway or anywhere else a delivery driver feels like plonking it. If I have specified a secure location for the item to be left, then fine, but otherwise if I'm not in to take delivery the parcel should be taken away for a later redelivery attempt.

In this case that is especially so considering that the seller agreed on the buyer's request that this would not be dispatched until a later date as she was away, but has sent it anyway.

It's 2014. If a cardbox box of what looks like goodies is on your doorstep for more than a couple of hours, it's going to go missing. Everyone including the courier knows that, and leaving it out in view like that is completely irresponsible and totally unacceptable. This idea also just gives couriers perfect opportunity to steal all sorts of things by simply updating tracking to say 'left in porch' and never even visiting the house. In this case the courier didn't drop a card through the door to say he'd been so there is no evidence at all to suggest the courier went to the right house or any house at all.

Yes, OP could get police involved, but I think we all know what the outcome will be - a crime number on a piece of paper and no actual investigation or result.

Amazon Logistics delivery drivers seem to do that all the time. Ring the bell, leave the package outside the door and record it as 'left in porch.'
