Sky upfront annual line rental - does it still exist
Comments

talktalk do value line rental for £141 saving £50 over the year.0

I have just called Sky as my Line rental saver & Half price broadband period were coming to an end.
I ended the call with free Broadband for a year so the next 12 months will be £15.40 for the year.
No it isn't the cheapest I could have got if I went elsewhere but I really cannot fault Sky's Broadband speeds & reliability where I am or their Customer service.
Plus with some of the horror EE change over stories & Talk Talk CS stories, it's a case of better the devil you know.0 -
It may have been withdrawn but their call centre operators seem oblivious to this as they took another 12 months up front from me a while back, and still charged me monthly line rental on top.
According to the Sky forums, that happened to a number of people, especially just after the withdrawal.0 -

I have now cancelled Sky broadband which is not competitive on price anyway.
same happened to me and it took about 3 months to sort out.
Also as a result of this mess my anniversary date seems to have gone from July to August and it also says 12 months free line - not even trying to figure this one out but I know what I paid and when.
Broadband is costing me £7.50 unlimited - at the very best we get 4 mb because we are the furthest possible distance from the junction box about 3 miles away.“Create all the happiness you are able to create; remove all the misery you are able to remove. I spoke to a few different staff members weekend just gone, including 2 in cancellations/retentions, and they said you can't pay in advance for a discount.0
-
Can you provide a link to this info please? I can see nothing on the Sky site to advise that it has been re-introduced.
Sorry mate, i cannot provide an online link. I was given this info when i called sky, and suggest you call them too.
They gave me half price fibre for a year and I paid my line rental up front for a year (the £140 has been taken from my credit card)
I also sort out sky for my parents and did their upfront line rental in november and had a similar problem to the ones posted above where they continued to take monthly line rental. After some moaning when I realised they gave a refund of the line rental and gave us half price line rental for 12 months, with discounted broadband too.0 -
In November the advance payment system was still in place, but people who have advance payments taken since December, when the change came about, have reported that they had their money returned, as it was taken in error.0

I had come to the end of my last offer which included line rental upfront and free broadband for a year.
Without asking for a discount I was automatically offered 12 months free broadband again. I then asked about line rental and the fact I had previously paid upfront.
He put me on hold and had to speak to another department, he did mention that Sky were currently not offering the pre paid line rental offer. After holding I was told they could offer me an alternative which was 9.99 a month for the line rental which I immediately agreed too!!!
So for the next 12 months I have line rental at £9.99 and free broadband. My advice is just be open and honest, they are probably getting lots of calls from people who were on deals from last summer due to BT going live with their sports offer.
I told him I have been happy with the Sky service but am just seeing lots of other offers online from other providers and if Sky could offer something a bit more competitive I'd be happy to stay.0 -
I am very glad I started this thread, a lot to think about.
I noticed that on next months bill August bill where it says line rental £15.40 and then underneath discounted it said £11.92 - not the full minus £15.40 so with that spur I took the plunge and rang them.
The first chap I rang was stubborn and he would not budge. I said that sky had offered others line rental of £9.99. He said that offers were given to new customers only and that we would have had a discount when we joined - this was unlikely as we have been with sky forever and discounts had not even been invented back then.
so deep breath and I asked for the cancellations department.
In the mean time I had written a list of our grievances.
When I got put through I said I wasn't happy about the disappearance of the upfront line rental and paying monthly now put an extra £15.40 onto our bill and that our household budget was squeezed enough as it is without finding another £15 a month. I said we had been paying about £9.08 a month so this was a 70% increase in the line rental charge. I said that we were not told when the wi fi routers were upgraded and I had to find the info myself and order it, not that it has made any difference. I said we had rung and asked for a HD box as we had a HD TV and we were told there would be an extra charge for this which we were not willing to pay. I also said that we were out of contract. My list of demands was huge.
so after a lot of discussion we now have
- a free upgrade to a HD box with a new remote, the family pack, access to catch up TV and boxed sets included, arriving on Monday and she also gave me the number for technical support 24 hours but it has 12 months warranty anyway
- line rental for £10 a month (saving £5.40)
- 12 month free wi fi (saving £5 a month)
- we stayed with the extra £5 anytime calls but she has changed it from including free overseas calls which we don't make to include instead free 0845 and 0870 numbers (I use the saynoto0870 website but a few times there is no geographical number so again this is a small saving on call charges)
so our potential bill would have been £53.65 after August (plus calls of course) and it is now £44.25.
we are now in a 12 month contract which I don't mind - better than the 18 or 24 month phone contracts anyway.
thank you everyone :T“Create all the happiness you are able to create; remove all the misery you are able to remove. Every day will allow you, --will invite you to add something to the pleasure of others, --or to diminish something of their pains.”0 -

That sounds good, as £9.99 was the monthly equivalent, when I paid line rental in advance, last October, before line rental increased , followed by the ceasing of upfront payment.
The only problem is that paying in advance was not only cheaper but protected from price increase (due about November, I believe).
Do you have tv or is the free broadband subject to a supplement of £2.50 for not having tv ? I have the same offer as you, but intend to cancel the tv from October.0
