OS Daily Monday 21st July

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

    Morning all

Up early this morning as dd2 has just set off for a week in France with a couple of friends . DH is taking her to her friends and one of the dad's is taking them to the airport . I shall really miss her , it's her first trip without us .

I'm off for a shower in a minute then off to work , it looks beautiful outside , think it's going to be a warm one again

May go for a walk when I get back from work but I'll see how tired / hot I am

Have a lovely day everyone xx
  • Good morning sistercas and all who cross/follow :)

Back in work today so an early one for me too. Messy week as hospital appointment for me tomorrow and then chiropractors for DD a couple of times .... oh and another vet's appointment somewhere in there too! Messy, busy and expensive. Need to get some more things on ebay and try and recoup a bit of this money being spent, one to go in the post today from a weekend sale.

Better get a move on but will try and catch up later with everyone's news.

Well wishes for all sick people and pets and hugs for those that need or just want them. Keep well and safe and have a lovely day.

  • Good morning everyone, last night was very hot and humid so difficult to sleep for any length of time. It's 24 degrees in here already, slightly cooler outside as we have a nice breeze so I've already opened up the greenhouse and polytunnel, and it feels like a sauna in both!!!

I'm going out with the Lurcha in a few minutes to give him a decent walk before it gets just too hot and then I'm in for a housework and ironing day while it's bearable.

Hope that all our poorlies are coping in this uncomfortable heat, not easy feeling unwell in the heat and that any problems are being dealt with and getting smaller. MOLLY thinking of you love and you HILLY stay positive and look after yourselves, Lyn xxx.

    Morning :hello:

Mr tru is so predictable, he came home with goodies from the food festival and I knew exactly what was in the bag before he opened it – beer and cheese :D He had a jar of honey too, I wasn't impressed with it – the company is based in London and the honey was from Spain. It was supposed to be local produce.

The chickens have been kicking bark through the fence onto the veg patch. They've unintentionally laid down a weed barrier :D Not much hoeing needed in that one area thanks to them :D

We've pickled the smaller onions. The borlotti beans are doing well, they'll be ready soon. Mr tru has sown some beetroot seeds. I've picked more courgettes and sliced and frozen them. I'm trying to decide what to put in the empty bit of veg patch

It's bright and sunny here, nice and cool out the back though. The sun doesn't hit the back garden until lunchtime so it's perfect for gardening. I'll get out there early in case it gets too hot later. Just need to hoover and hang some washing out first.

    Morning all :)
I got back last night and posted my goings on at the end of yesterday's thread so won't repeat them here!
A hot night so had fan on, hoping for a dry spell so I can get washing done. It's such a treat to have a good summer where it all gets hung out of doors :D
House needs a good clean, and also I need to do a food shop.
DH is having the day off as we were supposed to still be away anyway. I'm going to let him stay in bed as long as he wants since all that driving gas given him a backache poor thing, but he doesn't like me driving him - though I do drive him up the wall sometimes :p

Ttftm - good luck with all your appointments

Have a good day all, hugs to those who need them xx

Good Morning to sistercas - thanks for starting off the 'new thread for the day' - and Hi to all who follow :hello:.

meanmarie - sorry to hear that the colonoscopy didn't go according to plan. Never had it done personally, but DD has - so I've some idea of how you must be feeling. Hope the 're-run' is more successful for you.

jlhmd666 - getting the family into an 'OS' frame of mind, can be very hit/miss to start off with, but please don't give up on things. Are they all old enough to understand some of the basic 'Financial Facts of Life'. Maybe start off with your OH first and explain to him how you can all maintain your 'current standard of living' by making a few minor alterations to how you deal with the housekeeping/food side of things. If you can get him to see the 'bigger picture' and if you both share a 'common goal' (maybe a good holiday / home improvement / better car), it will be much easier. Gentle steps to start off with - and don't forget that, if the rest of the family feel that they're being deprived of their treats, they'll kick/scream against the whole thing.

jackieO - hope you manage to get your 'bites' sorted out. Insects knawing at you is something that I DO understand about. I have a reaction to 'Scottish Midgie Bites' that leave me feeling absolutely dreadful whenever we holiday there in the 'summer months' - I'm only really safe in early May or September :( - but it never puts me off going ;).

    dandy-candy - sounds like you've had a really enjoyable weekend away :j.

Hardup Hester - enjoy your final day of term :j :T

Still no signs of 'proper storm/heavy rain' though yesterday was quite a bit cooler - in fact it felt positively 'cool' when dgd2 and I were waiting at the bus stop yesterday evening. She's still out-for-the-count, so I'm making the most of my own PC before she surfaces.

Mum seems to be having another 'setback' at the moment. Her 'MEWS Score' went up to '4' on Friday, so the hospital team swung into action again. She's not drinking enough so is struggling to pass urine (could be something to do with the hot weather), but they've done another Urine Test; says she's 'feeling nauseous' so isn't eating properly again - this is often a 'long-standing control thing' with Mum. She's also back on IV Antibiotics for a Chest Infection and has been using Oxygen. She's got lots of little treats in her cupboard, but isn't showing interest in any of them and they're beginning to pile up again. The 'MEWS' are now back down to '0' which is good, but of course she still needs to finish the course of antibiotics, so still has the cannula inserted. She deliberately pulled the last one out ............... :naughty:.

    Plans for today include:

Forgot to put the bins out for collection last night, so need to get that done before 8.00am. Our local authority have stopped collecting separated Food Waste on a weekly basis, so it means that the fortnightly-collected Household Waste Bin starts to stink after about a week at this time of year :(. The other bin is the Garden Waste and it's full of damp grass clippings that start to ferment if left for more than 1 weeks .......... .

No signs of a child-minding request from DS2, so presume that means I'm safe from dgs3 for today ;). Now need to find somewhere to take dgd2 that will keep her occupied for a few hours. Think there could be something happening in Liverpool - we'll see if she fancies that. IF NOT, then there's always her favourite park - she's such a friendly child, that she'll always find someone to play with in the playground.

Hope everybody has a good day ahead - cheers Lilyplonk xx

    Morning all,

Hot and humid here again had trouble getting to sleep, we cut a water melon yesterday and I put the shell out for the birds, they are loving it, they keep coming down to have tiny bits of the flesh. Please remember to out some water out for the birds / wildlife if you can.

Off to work today same place as dd so that will save a bit of petrol, I love Mondays one of my favourite clients is in, he wont really speak very much at all in fact has barely spoken for 2 years but he seems to have attached himself to me and has started to say the odd sentence, its so rewarding bless him.

Dinner tonight will be sausage egg and bacon with bread and butter not having the oven on seems a good idea atm.

    Have good days all xx

    Good morning, Monday again!
Just finnished my coffee in my Pink Tenerife mug. It is one of the photo ones. A few years now since we went to the Canaries. Lovely places but to many pennies for us now.
We are having a 2nd midweek break to The Isle of Wight mid September.
We all like the ferry trip over and Queen bee takes it in her stride to becomming a sailor dog. Then caravan dog.

Must put the washing machine on soon. It is a hotpoint 9kg load. Good work horse but takes so long to complete a full wash @ 40C. Nearly 2 hours.

Still have the small amount of ironing to do.

Walk the dog and post a letter for the post office, we do their sample mailing and get paid in stamps once a month.

    sending good wishes...
