Corf99 replied to new that didn't have any problems with any steel frames.
It was vivvov who had problems.;)

Well people should stop high jacking other peoples threads and start their own instead.

My post was meant for the OP and you all know it.

How can we know? Any pointers that we missed, especially as you quoted some other post?

The steel frame comment would have given even the dullest of people a good pointer.

I think the clue is in the fact that it was only the OP that mentioned steel structure, so that would be who the second part of the reply was intended ;)

The confusion was obvious and needed correction. The question was tongue-in-cheek. Your reply was serious that suggested that you missed the confusion like corf999 did (and so would probably new who wasn't supposed to know about the steel structure).

If you needed to correct it then point it out, rather than question the post.
It was more than clear that the only person to mention steel structure was the OP and that is who the reply was intended for. I certainly read the thread from the start and knew exactly what was intended.

How is MiFi different from a smartphone in this respect? A smartphone can be used wirelessly as WiFi hotspot, but the point is that the network has to be wired in this case, at least partly.

That said, I can imagine using MiFi with some intermediate WiFi range extender. It would be nice to use popular mains WiFi extenders, but AFAIK, one of them has to be connected to the router by a LAN cable.

I see some "MiFi Mobile WiFi Broadband Routers" on ebay that do have a LAN port and can make a good combination with a pair of mains extenders (powerline adapters).

The OP has to place the unit on the top of the Houseboat. I imagine that they might actually want to use the phone at some point. Having to retrieve it from the roof each time can be inconvenient.

I don't have any idea as to what you mean by "but the point is that the network has to be wired in this case".

Why do you suggest that this is the case? Does the OP state that the Network needs to be wired?

Cheers for the quick replies everyone.

The steel shell of the boat is a pain..plus having the phone on the roof in a plastic take away tub is a bit "Heath Robinson"..luckily I'm not that sociable so don't get many phonecalls!
I just set it on max vol and listen out plus unplug when I've finished.

I'll probably give EE a call..my t mobile contract is up for renewal in September so will need to do the old haggle thingo...saying that the guy on the next boat says 3 is a good reception and he has a sim only that he got a "good deal on"...but other threads seem to indicate that 3 don't play ball regarding haggling down the price at end of contract.

I really do like a deal (wouldn't be on here if we didn't!)...the contract I'm on was £21/mth reduced to £7 after cashback..so might go down the cashback route again..maybe look to upgrade to a better phone and attempt to get a 2gb+ tethering allowance with it with t mobile..only need about 3 gb to get me through the month..will check and will post.

Anyone know the tethering allowance for t mobile?Would t mobile class as EE regarding tethering??
Plus what tethering allowance does 3 allow??

Not sure about the mifi etc..bit of a luddite so will have to re read and look into that...

    Thanks again

ATM the OP uses a smartphone for this, but has to use a USB cable, as wireless connection between the PC and the phone is impossible because of the steel structure. Even if MiFi device can be connected to a PC with a USB cable, I don't see any point in this as it's primarily a WiFi device and is more expensive than a dongle because of this.

...the only way to get a decent internet signal is to tether my mobile to my laptop with a 3m usb to mini usb and stick the mobile in a plastic container out on the roof...all well and good(..but can't get reception on my mobile inside the boat due to the steel superstructure)
Steel structures are known to block all sorts of signals, be it mobile signal or WiFi one.
