Why are Ebay uncooperative over safety?

  • On balance of my post I shall add this.

Been a member on Ebay for 10+ years, only problem selling being occasional non payment with time wasters, 3 times I think.

Buying wise, over this period had 3 sellers with "niggles" Ebay c/s resolved with sellers pretty rapidly.

But the issue I raised recently about the seller, who has 100% rating on Ebay curiously and led me to believe sound, that they advertise and encourage direct sell. We all buy off the internet. Spotted a forum, after my problems with the seller, that shows seller doesn't really like giving refunds, trys to wriggle out with denial. I will research more thoroughly when buying again, first time caught out on the internet.

Appears to have touched a nerve with Ebay over this though, like talking to the wall, trying to get a c/s representative who grasps English, yet alone wants to do anything about policing the site, which is their lip service statement to me.

Ebay pick and choose which answer board messages to remove as well, mine went, which were asking for who to contact higher in Ebay, but other posts I read feat. hate of Ebay, failings of Ebay, etc stay on. Curious.

19 cases you must choose guf sellers or are buying a shed load of stuff. I have been on ebay over 12 years and you will be lucky if I have started 10 cases in that time.(mind you I probably could have started more if I had not resolved problems via my messages)

That's out of about 180 transactions. I'll start by message and see how it goes. The last one was a DC extension cable that didn't work. The seller just kept asking questions like what's it plugged into, what voltage and current am I putting through it etc at the end of the day it didn't work (was powering a LED strip) it would flicker if I pushed and wobbled the connection so it was obviously something loose somewhere. I just started a case in the end as it was quicker.

Forget eBay, they are not the only Internet site, all that matters is how you paid , it is the payment method that protects you.

If you are Internet savvy generally then I would assume you used PayPal, or some other safe payment method , therefore you don't need a cooperative seller as if they won't refund all you need to do,is invoke PayPal buyer protection.

eBay is almost a red herring here, you need to concentrate on your chosen payment method to seek redress against a reluctant seller.

Goodness gracious, you do have an unfortunate way of choosing poor sellers. On a good month I can easily buy 50 + items and think I have only opened 2 cases so far this year.

Been on ebay over 10 years and i think i have opened 2 cases against UK sellers. 1 not as decribed and 1 not received. Although they posted it after paypal refunded me.

Opened a couple of cases against Chinese sellers, But only a handful. Considering the amount i have bought not bad.

I didnt realise it was the same seller i had issues with. Seems they have the slowest post in the world.
Most stuff arriving in 14 days but his stuff always takes over 40 days.

  • Thanks to soolin for being sensible, and welcoming.

To some of the others, if you haven't got anything to offer, other than put people down, what are you on?

Unfortunately seller only accepted paypal via ebay, I asked to make paypal payment, seller said card on a secure site or by cheq. only.

Looked legit, company isn't a fly-by-night, but now aware of long term issues with owners attitude towards customers having researched company.

Won't do it again unless a major company! Once bitten...

So did you pay by card or by cheque?

If by card, have a read of MSE's Chargeback article.

I've had about 2 cases in 15 years, none in the last 10 with over 1000 transactions as a buyer.

As a seller I have had a few bad ones that has stopped me selling, for me it's the buyers who cause the problems not the sellers.
