Dogs on a Sun holiday?
Comments
-
We have just come back from a Sun holiday in Woolacombe, Devon and took our dog. When I rang to book, I asked if they took dogs and they said they did but we had to pay £5 per night for him which was fine. We were very happy with the van and its location so no complaints. Guess some sites are getting a little fussy but not all it would seem.0

I have received reply from The Sun which basically says that it says in the terms and conditions that NO dogs can be taken on one of their holidays so I cannot get a refund.
I have read so many times on here about people taking their dog on one of these holidays that I honestly thought there would be no problem.
We may go without our dog but I doubt I will be booking a holiday with them again.
This is their reply:
I am sorry to hear that you are unable to take your pet on your allocated Sun break. However, the terms and conditions of the promotion state that “Pets are NOT permitted for bookings at any of the parks in this offer”.
For as long as the Sun holiday promotions have been running, there has always been a no-pets policy. Because we are unable to determine the type of accommodation when booking (pets are only allowed in standard accommodation) we could not guarantee that your allocated unit would be pet friendly.
There are no refunds available on the grounds of not being able to take your pet on holiday, also amendments to the booking are not possible - as you have agreed to the terms and conditions of the offer by submitting your application. However, should you be able to find someone else who is able to take you holiday, you can contact the holiday park who will amend the detail! s for you.
I hope this will not deter you from applying for future Holidays in the Sun.The world is over 4 billion years old and yet you somehow managed to exist at the same time as David Bowie0 -
Sun holiday people are generally given the basic accommodation unless they pay for an upgrade. Many people do not pay for the upgrade for differing reasons. However, this does not mean that they would be happy to stay in accommodation that had previously had a dog in it. Not all dog owners are considerate, and the low cost of a Sun holiday does not cater for special cleaning of the caravan afterwards by the holiday park so that the next holiday maker is not subject to doggy smells.
I know that I would not want to stay in a caravan that smells of dog, even though I am a dog owner.
I imagine that the holiday parks have set aside a limited number of caravans that are only for use by people on a Sun holiday. Some may also set aside a limited number of caravans that can be used by people on a Sun holiday who wish to holiday with their pet. People who book direct are unlikely to be given these caravans, and will have a far wider selection to choose from.
It is unfortunate OP that you did not mention that you were thinking of booking your holiday through the Sun promotion, as you surely would have received a different response to the one that you did when you first raised your query about your dog. It is also unfortunate that your chosen park is one that does not allow Sun holiday makers to take their dogs - as you say, others have been on a Sun holiday, including myself, with their dog. This is a lesson for all of us when checking whether or not we can take our dogs on a Sun holiday to be sure to mention that our intention is to book the holiday through the Sun's promotion.Smiles are as perfect a gift as hugs...

I just don't understand how so many other people have been able to take a dog.
I won't be booking with the Sun again unless I go abroad. Why would I want to go on holiday in this country without my dog? There are so many people with dogs and lots of them take their dogs on holiday.
I never thought to mention about a dog when I contacted the site I wanted to stay on as I, wrongly, assumed that as other people had seemingly had no problems taking a dog on one of these holidays I wouldn't eitherThe world is over 4 billion years old and yet you somehow managed to exist at the same time as David Bowie0 -
I've taken my dog on one sun holiday, but I called the site I was going on first to see if I could. The answer was yes, if upon booking a dog friendly caravan was available I could be transferred to it with a daily cost for the dog. At many sites that allow dogs, they often only allow them in certain lodges/caravans.0
